Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942 in Chicago. He dropped out of college to do some acting and later signed a Hollywood contract, first with Columbia and then with Universal. The film roles he was offered were none too riveting at first, so he turned his hand to professional carpentry instead. However, four years later, he was finally offered a part worth taking in American Graffiti (1973), and within a few more years he immortalised himself as the sarcastic yet heroic Han Solo in Star Wars (1977). Ford's prowess as a man of action was duly noted and soon another cult movie hero was born - Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations followed in 1985 after his portrayal of John Book in Witness. Yet another Golden Globe nomination was notched up for his role as Dr. Richard Kimble in the 1993 remake of the classic 60's TV series The Fugitive. Harrison Ford showed he could also handle himself comedically in 1995, this time he took on Humphrey Bogart's original part in a remake of Sabrina. More recently, Ford has returned to the action genre with Firewall (2006) where he stars alongside Paul Bettany in a high-tech heist movie.
