Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born on the 5th of October 1975 in Reading. Her family were heavily involved in the theatrical world, both her parents being stage actors and one set of grandparents actually running the Reading Repertory Theatre. Therefore Kate began her career at the early age of 11, dancing in a breakfast cereal commercial. She went on to receive formal training at an arts school, and intermittently appeared on stage and television. At age 17, she won the role of Juliette in Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures" and went on to star the following year in Ang Lee's "Sense and Sensibility" as Marianne Dashwood, for which part she received a British Academy Award and an Oscar nomination. In 1997, Kate became an international star after playing Rose in James Cameron's "Titanic", a film which garnered 11 Oscars and another nomination for Kate herself as Best Actress.
