This is what's known as a black comedy. The subject matter is serious but it's played out in a hilarious way. There's a reason why this won so many awards.
We watched this just last night. It's mostly in Chinese with subtitles but don't let that put you off. I thought it was a rare honest story of east meets west. I also love that it's a true story. The great aunt in the film actually plays herself.
The best way to describe this one is it's like being physically on a roller coaster. You really feel like you're out there in space. Tip: Turn the lights off!
This is very different to the original Jumanji and we had serious doubts but it's very funny indeed. We're really looking forward to seeing the sequel.
Not all of Disney's remakes have been good. Avoid The Lion King. This one, however, holds up surprisingly well. I was particularly amazed by the CGI. Almost everything, bar Mowgli, is animated.
Warning! This is grim. Like 12 Years a Slave kind of grim. I think it's an excellent example of an animated film that isn't for kids, even though the two main characters are kids. I know a 1988 Japanese animated film about the 2nd World War is very far removed from your normal viewing but just trust me on this one.
This is a remake of a Scottish classic. I've heard the black and white original is better but we liked this one anyway and I suspect you're more likely to understand the accents in this version!
