Where does science end and the supernatural begin? That's the mysterious - and dangerous - line explored by skeptical psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) when she teams up with priest-in-training David Acosta (Mike Colter) to explore the evil humanity is capable of. Together, they dive into the Catholic Church's files of occult phenomena to bring them to rational conclusions...or attempt to. Angel sightings, demonic possessions, prophecies and conspiracies will test their faiths and push them to their limits as they learn that the world's darkness may run deeper than they ever thought possible.
Adapted from Deborah Harkness' best-selling trilogy of novels, 'A Discovery of Witches' is a bold and romantic thriller that uncovers a secret underworld of extraordinary beings hiding in plain sight for fear of persecution by humans - they are vampires, witches and daemons. Brilliant historian Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) is a witch denying her own heritage. But when she unexpectedly calls up an ancient, bewitched manuscript from Oxford's Bodleian Library, one that was thought by the creatures to be lost and could answer the mysteries of their existence, she finds herself thrown into the heart of a dangerous mystery - and into the path of the enigmatic geneticist and vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode). Matthew is driven to solve the looming threat of the creatures' decline and extinction, but their unlikely alliance to find the book before it falls into the wrong hands - and their deepening relationship - threatens to violate age-old taboos and shake the fragile peace that exists between the species.
Five young people wake up on a beach washed up by the tide. Where are they? What brought them there, and what are the strange creatures that surround them? All this and more will be revealed in this beautifully executed award-winning first feature, chock full of exciting new acting talent, from Gez Medinger and Robin Schmidt - future genre names to keep a sharp eye out for.
Throughout the world there are those who are tormented, suffer and die at the hands of a curse. On 'Cursed' real people who are affected by curses tell their stories through in-person interviews and cinematic re-enactments.
First-person accounts of how curses have plagued, hurt and even killed those affected are told by the people who have lived through them and by those who have seen others afflicted. Dramatic reconstructions and compelling interviews paint a picture of what it's like to live with, and die by, a curse.
Karen Frandsen from Eerie Investigations interviews Jeanette Ellis, lecturer on traditional British Witchcraft, member of PEBL, and author of "Forbidden Rites". In this fascinating video, Jeanette reveals the truth behind many aspects of Witchcraft:
- The history of traditional Witchcraft in the United Kingdom
- How Witches practice their Craft
- The infamous "Witchfinder General", Matthew Hopkins and how he persecuted supposed deviants called "Witches"
We also investigate the town of Mistley, home to Hopkins, and visit the infamous Swan Inn, the very location of the Witch trials. The Inn is believed to be the place where Hopkins 'swam' his victims and where he is allegedly buried and has been haunting ever since.
