Portwenn's only doctor continues to challenge the community, his wife and even Buddy, a stray dog, who cannot resist Doctor Ellingham's fervent rebuffs. Having separated for a breather in Spain visiting her mother, Louisa has returned, but not into the arms of Doc Martin. Insisting on a break while they try and sort out their differences, Louisa moves into the family home and Doc Martin moves out. In an effort to win her back, he agrees to undertake couples therapy with Dr Rachel Timoney - something that Louisa finds almost as challenging as he does. Life in Portwenn continues around them as Al Large tries to set up a new business while his father Bert decides to move away from an old one; Aunt Ruth faces a health issue which cannot be ignored much as she'd like to; and Morwenna has found a new flatmate who catches the eye of PC Penhale. But at the heart of it all lies the question - will Martin and Louisa's marriage be saved by therapy? And will Buddy make their house his home?
The brilliant final two series of the longest running situation comedy in the world. Old favorites, Alvin and 'Electrical' Entwistle team up with new boy Luther 'Hobbo' Hobdyke, a former milkman turned secret agent. The new trio soon have to cope with Hobbo's search for his birth mother, Howard's plan to row solo across the Atlantic, burying a friend's dead ferret, and breaking a voodoo curse. Meanwhile, the village gets ready for a wedding in the last ever episode of the series affectionately known as 'The Very Last of the Summer Wine'. All this and Clegg thinks he might just have forgotten something rather important...
Granville still has his sights set on a romance with Mavis, and Madge is giving Gastric more attention these days, but that could be because she's impressed with his invention skills. The Black Widow is still keeping her options open in the pursuit of Granville and Mr. Newbold. Does she have competition in the shape of Mrs. Rossi? Meanwhile, Leroy attempts to get Beth to dump her childhood sweetheart and enlists her best friend Ruby to help with his plan. Eric and Cyril try to impress their wives when they try various sporting activities, but still find time to get in touch with their artistic side. An oversize balloon wreaks havoc, and Arkwright's shop continues to offer more unlikely products and barmy schemes than you could shake a Yorkshire pudding at. And, of course, Arkwright still has to contend with the unpredictable snapping jaws of the till.
He's rigid, surly, tactless and self-centred - but he's the only doctor in Portwenn. Even on his own wedding day, Dr. Martin Ellingham can't raise a smile; but following a suitably disaster-filled honeymoon, he and Louisa must learn to live together, raise a child, and manage both their careers as best they can. It's a big adjustment for them, especially Martin, unaccustomed as he is to clutter and noise, but even he's not as picky as their OCD 'manny'. Factor in Doc Martin's usual string of offbeat patients -the hypochondriac, the hoarder and a clumsy constable prone to self-inflicted injuries - and Martin is soon even more ill-tempered than usual. With the return of his crippling blood phobia, and his long unseen mother showing up out of the blue, Martin turns for advice to his aunt Ruth, perhaps the sanest person in Portwenn - but is it too little too late?
After the death of the President, his successor (Kevin Polack) is on the campaign trail to be re-elected. On a stop in Colorado, he is suddenly snowed in and he and his entourage are forced to take shelter in a small diner. Of course, the group completely take over from the diner's owner (Badja Djola) and his French-Canadian waitress (Clotilde Courau). Also in the diner is a local redneck (Sean Astin) and a married couple. Suddenly, the movie moves into a suspense film as the President learns that Iraq has invaded Kuwait and slaughtered hundreds of American soldiers. Setting up temporary communications, the President announces that he will launch a nuclear attack on Iraq immediately if the country does not withdraw. Iraq reacts that they have 23 nuclear missiles trained on the US that they are ready to launch. Tensions mount with the involved civilians offering a different viewpoint to the President from the normal opinions of his advisors.
Comic legend Zero Mostel mixes slapstick and surrealism as a tardy opera star traversing London in 'Ride of the Valkyrie' while 'Red, White and Zero', scripted by Shelagh Delaney, blends realism and poetry with poetry with New Wave detachment as a young woman travels home from the north of England. Tony Richardson (Tom Jones) directs Vanessa Redgrave in the final part of the film, 'Red and Blue', a musical, melancholy romantic reverie.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Cornwall and the picture postcard village of Portwenn, Clunes reprises his role of the curmudgeonly Doctor Martin Ellingham whose truculent and tactless manner upsets just about everyone. When we last saw him he had packed his bags ready to take on a consultant's position in London. That was until estranged girlfriend Louisa gave birth to their son - who still doesn't have a name... Can the Doc cope with being a new dad while trying to resume his high-flying career as a surgeon?
The return of the much-loved comedy set in Arkwright's corner shop. The series begins with a Christmas special where Granville (David Jason) still has his sights set on romance with Mavis (Maggie Ollerenshaw) but Madge (Brigit Forsyth) has ideas about moving away. Mr. Newbold (Geoffrey Whitehead) is also thinking of doing a runner, leaving Granville at the mercy of Mrs. Featherstone (Stephanie Cole) who continues to pursue the canny grocer while keeping Mr. Newbold as first reserve! In other episodes Granville has a new idea for growing the business - he's offering fitness classes, but can he really turn Gastric (Tim Healy) into a greyhound to impress Madge? Eric (Johnny Vegas) and Cyril's (Kulvinder Ghir) quest for fitness finds them in some very uncomfortable lycra on a bicycle made for two. We hear about Mrs. Featherstone's "exotic past" and Mr. Newbold has an image make-over. Mrs. Hussein (Nina Wadia) continues to flirt with Leroy (James Baxter), who has fallen for a vegan librarian, Beth (Katie Bedford) but she's reluctant to date a "meat eater". Gastric discovers he has an artistic side and Kath (Sally Lindsay) gets a big surprise when Eric returns home from a night out. A trip to Scarborough presents Granville with an opportunity to combine business with pleasure when Mavis invites him for lunch in a seaside hotel; back at the shop Leroy is in sole charge for the day - he's keen and full of confidence, so what could possible go wrong? There are more hair-brained schemes and unlikely products than you could shake a boiled ham at, and of course the unpredictable snapping jaws of the till.
