Mel Gibson leads an all star cast in Franco Zeffirelli's version of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Upon returning to Denmark Hamlet learns that his father has passed away and that his mother has already married Hamlets Uncle, Claudius (Alan Bates). Hamlet is urged to marry his beloved sweetheart Ophelia (Helena Bonham-Carter) but soon the ghost of his father returns to visit him, revealing that he was in fact murdered by his uncle Claudius and mother Gertrude (Glenn Close).
