Devised by 'Dixon of Dock Green' creator Ted Willis, 'Hunters Walk' shared several similarities with the classic 1950's police drama - in particular a small-town setting, and storylines encompassing the more human aspects of police work. Based at a police station in a fictional Midlands town, 'Hunters Walk' offered a contrasting alternative to the 1970's more hard-hitting, action-led urban crime dramas. Its small, idiosyncratic team of officers face a typically broad spectrum of cases, from neighbours' disputes and hooliganism to suspected murder. Offering an authentic portrayal of provincial police work - a premise later regaining in popularity with series like Juliet Bravo - 'Hunters Walk' features excellent scripts by Roger Marshall and Peter J. Hammond among other noted writers.

When spirited young Frank (Lucas Bond), an evacuee from the London Blitz, is dumped into her irritable care, his innocence and curiosity awaken Alice's deeply buried emotions. Bravely embracing life's miraculous unpredictability, Alice learns that wounds may be healed, second chances do occur, and that, just perhaps - magic really does exist.
