For 15-year-old Trife, life is a day-to-day struggle. Trapped between the worlds of his school friends, the girl he loves, and the draw of his powerful and dangerous uncle, Trife must choose between the path he knows is right and a life of guns, drugs and violence that he has come to know only too well. When a classmate's suicide leaves Trife and his crew, Moony and Jay, with the day off school, the tragedy seems overshadowed by the opportunity to shop, get high, get laid and party - but in a world where sex is currency, drugs are easy, and violence is a way of life, trouble can never be too far around the corner. On these streets kids grow up fast... and 48 hours... can be a lifetime.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest stand-ups of the eighties, former preacher Sam Kinison brought fire and brimstone to the stages of U.S. comedy clubs. With his trademark primal-scream punctuating his act, Kinison's comedy vented his searing rage and frustration at the world, and earned him the title of America's first "shock-comic". Kinison's unique act and wild-man image soon gained him the respect of some of the biggest rock acts of the time such as Ozzy Osbourne, Guns 'n' Roses, and Motley Crue, and soon Kinison too was selling out arenas in the manner of his rock heroes. With his popularity at these incredible heights he recorded several HBO specials and made many guest appearances on 'Saturday Night Live'. Ironically, after finally giving up the drink and drugs that accompanied his party-animal lifestyle, Sam was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk driver in 1992. Both a friend and enormous influence on Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison is a key figure in the pantheon of American stand-up comedy. This 90 minute special includes some of Sam's best routines and includes contributions from, amongst others, Jay Leno and Richard Pryor.
Rubika Shah's energising film charts a vital national protest movement - Rock Against Racism (RAR), formed in 1976. 'White Riot' blends fresh interviews with queasy archive footage to recreate a hostile environment of anti-immigrant hysteria and National Front marches. As neo-Nazis recruited the nation's youth, RAR's multicultural punk and reggae gigs provided rallying points for resistance. The campaign grew from Hoxton fanzine roots to 1978's huge antifascist carnival in Victoria Park, featuring X-Ray Spex, Steel Pulse, Tom Robinson and of course The Clash, whose rock star charisma and gale-force conviction took RAR's message to the masses.
By any standard, director Sam Peckinpah's film The Wild Bunch, a powerful tale of hangdog desperadoes bound by a code of honour, rates as one of the all-time greatest Westerns, perhaps one of the greatest of all films. This original Director's Cut restores it to a complete, pristine condition unseen since its July 1969 theatrical debut. The image is letterboxed, the color renewed, the stereo soundtrack remixed and reintegrated - all to blood-and-thunder effect. Watch William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan and more great stars saddle up for the roles of a lifetime.
This video also features the home video debut of The Wild Bunch: An Album in Montage, the Academy Award nominated 1996 documentary by Paul Seydor and Nick Redman. It includes long-unseen footage of the on-set shooting, and reminiscences by principals connected with the film.
There's nothing straight about this movie. But here's the dope anyway: Cheech and Chong make their film debut in this riotous rock 'n' roll comedy, bringing with them the same madness, lifestyles and sketches that sold over 10 million records in the early '70s. Cheech and Chong's marijuana-laced humor keeps their spirits high and leads them to an outrageous finale at L.A.'s Roxy Theater, where Cheech performs in a pink tutu and Chong dresses as a large red quaalude. It will make you feel very funny.
