I'm giving this film two stars for the opening credits; they suggest something fairly good.
So, does anyone have any idea as to what is going on in this film? If so, tell me! Was it zombie apocalypse? Nuclear winter? Global warming? Donald Trump?
I did watch to the (bitter) end in the hope that there would some kind of understandable climax. Oh how wrong I was. Yet another segment of time I will never regain.
but so worthwhile.
This is the series 'Homeland' is based on - and this is much, much better. Homeland is sanitised for the American market, Prisoners of War, takes no prisoners. The story, characters and acting are first rate; this is drama, human drama and physiological thriller all in one. Move beyond that it is in Hebrew and you will be gripped from the first episode. But beware, the prisoners of war were tortured - and those scenes are uncomfortable and in some cases, unbearable to watch. But it goes towards understanding the reaction of the soldiers once they are released.
I would have given more stars if they were available!
Not what we were expecting at all. The story kept us riveted until the very end.
OK - the writer does take a couple of liberties with the story - but hey, this a film not a BBC 4 docu biography. The acting is wonderful, the cinematography rich and the lighting suitably atmospheric.
Yes, I agree that you have to keep your wits about you when the flashback happen - but the film is hoping that we are intelligent enough to pick up on that.
Very enjoyable and worth watching.
Loved every second of this stylish film. The music is wonderful and there are some laugh out loud moments. This is def one for the home DVD collection!
But each and every one of them was wasted.
This could have been such a good film, after all, it is a true story. But the screenwriter(s) and the editors need to be shut in a room and played this film on continuous loop for their sins. It is disjointed, lost, ineffectual and stereotyped. (cue Russian officer looking defiantly Russian). All the actors were disengaged with their roles and simply mouthing their lines as if they couldn't care less. And in the end, I didn't care less either.
*sheesh* another 90 minutes to me forever.
