Sleep

Oh dear oh dear

(Edit) 11/11/2024

The actors were really good, the story was an awful mess. There could have been a good tale to tell but this film was really bad.

The Lesson

Uneasy life for the well healed family

(Edit) 09/04/2024

Enticing draw into a complicated relationship with a family having a high healed life style. Wonderful acting from a small cast all giving strong performances and a really interesting story line.

How to Have Sex

Awfulness

(Edit) 17/03/2024

What an awful film, it didn't start well and continued to be awful, I couldn't care less about the main characters, there was nothing to enjoy here. A complete waste of time.

Asteroid City

Oh dear oh dear

(Edit) 24/02/2024

There's a massive potential to make a wonderful film with so many great actors that has been missed markedly. This is an awful mess with a senseless story line that is completely uncomprihenceable. The director appears to have decided to spend obscene amounts of money making a pointless film, well because he can. The man is completely naked but everyone is saying what great clothes he's wearing.

Harry Birrell Presents Films of Love and War

Wonderful family passion for film

(Edit) 03/10/2023

Great depiction of a family involved in making films over a long period encompassing a wide range of joy and danger. What appears to be a documentary turns into something much more involving and moving. Well worth a watch.

The Eight Mountains

demonstration of a great relationship

(Edit) 17/09/2023

Wonderful acting with very moving subject matter showing the long friendship between the 2 lead characters. Thought provoking and strong story line, a very memorable film.

Tár

Thinks it's more than it is

(Edit) 08/07/2023

What a dull, drab, mess of a film. Totally over rated and tedious with characters that are very difficult to care about, it's also so long! I would have to be paid a fair amount to watch this ever again.

Do you always want to watch cutting edge films, I don't so this was a welcome change, OK so it wasn't going to win any awards but it was well acted, an interesting story, even the ending was good! And it was based on truth, well worth watching.

Aftersun

Aftersun wonder

(Edit) 10/04/2023

I've rated this as one of my films of the year. It's wonderfully acted particularly the young woman taking the part of the daughter. She was so natural in the part and I would say she made this film so special although her father in the film was also wonderful. These two were completely believable in an emotional storyline which I remembered long after watching the film. Great film.

The Souvenir: Part II

Snoozeville

(Edit) 12/10/2022

I would have liked to have been interested in the characters but I was bored entirely by them. The saving grace was that there were pieces of good music but the whole film was tedious and dull. I just didn't care about any of them, rich, affluent, dull, it's giving me yawns thinking about it.

Petite Maman

Petite Maman

The sisters taking main parts in this film are fantastic in their characters, the story line is unusual but makes sense as long as you give it time, and the film is one of those that stays with you. It's not loud, fast paced, action packed, which makes it so much better than a lot of todays films.
