A short, dramatic vignette of tragedy from the master of Indian auteurship. A quick sharp comment on the societal abuses of power between humans generally and more specifically within the Indian caste system.
I love Park Chan-Wook’s work in all its bravery, risk and occasional avant gardeness. Cyborg is very definitely in the latter category as it is surreal to the max! I agree with other reviewers that it really is so so strange that it could prove for many a challenging film to make it through and to truly find they enjoy. I’m not sure I found the experience ‘enjoyable’ in the purest sense ... however it is so unusual and such a bold and maddeningly surreal approach to the difficult (and often ‘surreal’) manifestations of exploring mental health issues that it deserves recognition and 4 stars at least. An important though sometimes baffling work of cinema. Kudos to the ensemble cast also who magnificently depict characteristics that are quite quite out of the ordinary.
