What used to be kitchen-sink film..........now uprated to car-park. Nice weather in Florida though by the looks. A tale of swearing people who appear total waste of space.
Not sure if we are supposed to feel sorry for them, or for their countrymen who have to live near them. Have been to extremely poor areas in India, and they keep clean and tidy as are able in their circumstances. They have self respect, and respect for others. Costs nothing. They would love to swop places for sure.
Areas of UK rapidly becoming similar, alas. Not sure how it is reversible, which is sad future...........
Have to give it a 4, instead of preferred 3, as is just so much junk out there at the moment.
Scarlett does well.
Some of sub players a bit ordinary.
Is Blade-runner meets AI. A great deal of Blade-runner city going on..........which is OK.
I have projector and big sound, which probably helps this type of film to be fair........... 3.5 would have been reasonable
Really one for HDS fans. Everyone else, except film buffs, will prob not manage more than 10 mins. Stanton one of the cult actors from way back. Even actors like his understated performances. Although, like multitude of US actors, he is really just himself in all his films. All you need is the ability to walk on set and speak, with the ego to think that what you are saying is important. Can earn obscene money, and don't have to kick a football well, or strum a guitar!......Although Harry for fair singer in his day, and sings great Spanish in the film.
Poignant end to any film made, when Harry looks direct at camera to say Cheerio everyone. He died within the year at magnificent 91, fags and all!
Very odd subject to use as an historical parody. Kim Dong film was even more bizarre, especially as still alive! At least this has a sense of the ridiculous, therefore making it, almost, less offensive.
Not sure the Russian people find it so funny perhaps? Stalin and Beria were easily up there with Hitler and Himmler, maybe more so, as they killed any of their own people, not just one religion. The corn/grain shortage, when they just took all the winter stores in the countryside, and the people starved to death in 10's of thousands was probably a peak event.
Well photographed and executed, but very odd/weird/disturbing all at once. Kept worrying about the guy wearing the rubber suit. Must have needed a serious shower at end of shoots for sure.
Pretty predictable, but a lot of the acting was good in places. Just the content was zig zag. Hard to knock it too heavily, due to all the genuine effort put into it.
Not sure who reads the outline and manages to drum up the millions required! Where great Brit flicks never see light of day...........
Quite clever interpretation of a writer's dilemma. Not sure the actual CD was an upright gentleman as depicted. His extra maritals being fairly well documented, but nice to see Chris Plummer in his forte again, and stealing the film at 90 odd!
Actually folk acting. No swearing or violence. Has to be at least a 3 for not being chainsaw 28. No poor actors, and some well executed support cameos.
Have to say it must be a very wealthy 1959 village, where every car must be brand new! In 1959 there were very few cars, and most were black. Although my brother did have an Austin Ruby for £5 that was hand painted white and blue.............
Spent most of the film trying to work out why Sandra B looks a bit like Michael Jackson. Is OK, is bright and colourful, and has a mass of dialogue, like the Clooney ones, but is a bit too light and fluffy to maintain interest...........
Lady does look a bit like Goldie. Great deal of subtitled Mexican/Spanish for some reason......was it a Spanish film originally? Bit strange.
Is OK, and is not offensive......so put it up to 3 rather than 2 mainly based on that. In fact don't recall one F or MF in the whole film. That is a novelty these days.
When they get Plummer and Statham F and Blind through the whole film, for no good reason, is just not necessary............
De Niro has done the hard nut stuff, and now does some lighter works. I like Travolta. Wild Hogs was good fun. This is just boring. We get the mafia thing, we get the ba da bing ba da bing thing. Godfather, Untouchables, and Goodfellas did it all. To go there again there has to be something new, or at least well done. Warren did all this in Bugsy.........1991!
Really more of TV documentary than a film, and only really covers his defection episode. Would have liked one of his full life, as had far more information there, but interesting to hear stories from original dancers from the time.
A reminder how it used to be. One hopes, even with Putin, that most Russians can now freely travel?
Nearly a 4, but do tend to go along with the lack of dynamics with the lead characters. No real frisson there. However, well photographed, and once again for Brits, excellent scene production. Amazing detail of streets and homes. Mass of effort gone into that. Plus proficient acting by line-up with no weak links.
It does finish, which is a bonus. Off the cuff films can work, but found this a bit of a Stephen King off-shoot oddity. Never really got worried about anyone in the film. Just too silly to be fair.
Is OK. Fills some time. Been done before in various guises. Fairly ordinary. Pierce has done better, but looks better than Guy in this one.
First film was quite unusual and fun. This one is still a bit unusual, but panders to the multi super hero ridiculous powers folk. Way too many silly people in same film.
Ryan is sufficient, does not need watering down with X men et al. Iron Man and Batman and Thor probably in next one!
