Great pair of redneck actors, with pretty good Louisiana drawl. Probably OK on TV, but when watch in laaaarge chunks, is a handful of constant dialogue.
If was compressed into a 2 hour film would have been top job. Hours and hours of the two main men talking it up and up does diminish it a bit as a single event.
Perhaps best to watch an episode each week......as per intention............
Maybe see Mud, and Out of the Machine, to see the two guys do their thing..............
Original film would obviously be very slow now, but the gravitas of those taking part would still show through. Depp and Dench just rhymes with disappear. Just shows how great Connery and Finney and Bergman and Bacall were!
All we need now is Steve Martin do another Bilko.
Cannot anyone come up with new ideas? Disney are re-making all sorts of classics.
Alan Badel WAS the Count of Monte Cristo, Jeremy Brett WAS D'artagnan with Blessed AS Porthos.
Cannot re-make a definitive execution , so why bother.
Next year they will re-make Gangs of New York with Andy Pandy as Cutting...............
Actually quite liked it. Not entirely sure why. Just a bit different to most. Would have given it 3, but so much really dire films out that deserves a lift.
Looks a bit like Madonna do you think now? Especially in harsh make up.
The Australians do some really good natural films. Bit like some Brit films when they are on form. Just shows you do not need loads of top names and exploding livers, with a mass of computer effects, to make an interesting and clever film.
Could almost have gone 5 stars compared to most of the banal offerings that come out now.............
Billy's last film? He got away with the what we did on holls film, but that was nearly 2 years prvious. Role had to be tailor made for this one.
He will be remembered as a comedian, of course......did use to play useful banjo........but he has done some very watchable films. Mrs Brown, Beautiful Joe, Man Who Sued God, and the Debt Collector, where he was very gritty. He was good on screen, and could easily made a career on stage and screen.
Have watched Billy since he first walked on Parkinson Show, and he has been a pleasure.......as was Terry Thomas, who also developed the nasty Parkinsons. I hope they keep him comfortable..............
Written up as very clever film, but is just a bit odd. Odd not necessarily clever. No twists at end to redeem it. Well acted though for sure. Not Guy letting things down. Just misses the mark. Could have been loads better...........
Have a REL 505 and is major must have for Blade 2. Will get Blu Ray when cheaper. Oblivion, Elysium, AI, Blade 1, all good films, and this one joins them. Is one for cinemas and home systems for sure............
Same formula as first film, with some more drastic graphics/PC-generation etc. Bit of fun. Mark Strong needs to get back to Guy Ritchie and do the promised Real Rockanrolla
Another major cover up. One of hundreds over the years. True story, and one of many...........Coogan actually does quite well, especially as is up against a deserved dame.
Not quite up to Mrs Brown. Probably stretching a story-loosely-based into a politically correct dig at the redneck Victorian norm of the era.
So many Marvel comic films. Now they have all the individual characters doing swop-meet with each other.
Mike Keaton a few years from his own Batman, but likes a good laugh, so lifts a pretty ordinary film up a tad.
My wife enjoyed it. One semi disabled, one foreign gentleman, one gay couple, one old person, one still-slightly-over-weight person, one very thin person...........all the politically correct parameters met!!
Bit of a soap etc, but fills a popular demand.......like Poldark, but modern times..........
Should have left it as the 2 films. Pixar can do better........maybe should go back to the toaster and angle poise again?
Problem with doing films based very loosely on a true storey, is the story has to have a decent ending. A journalist basically made some money out of a sad street entertainer, did managed to gain him some financial support, and guy sank back into oblivion.
Jamie and Bob did their job, but with poor script and weak story.
Bargain. Get lots of quality minutes in in go, and in blu ray. Better than a lot of films at thirty times the budget.
