For me is a 4 because i am of an age. If like poetry, or a cameo of how it used to be, this is a gem. For anyone else will be a 1. I remember Sir John in the day. The quiet man. The Queen's poet. I knew the railway he was on, and the places he went past. Not necessarily rose tinted, but do miss the security we had then in our persona. It seemed like we would go on the same for ever...............no mobiles or ICs then. People did rubbish jobs, with hard learned skills, for not much money, but maybe had more self worth at least...............Sir John probably saw the changes coming, as was documenting something that had, in fact, already gone.............
Had to give this a 3 because is pretty tight fit. Bit like a Bourne thing, without so much megga action shoots. Idris is pretty tough looking, and most of the bish-bash is almost credible. Not quite as OTT as say Transporter super-martial.
Films always trying to do the odd couple thing with guns. Works better than quite a few have seen. De Niro was good at it at one end, and Crowe was lousy at it at the other........but is in the majority group alas...........
Lot of well know faces in this, and Kevin is quite good as a heavy for once, or heavyish. Lee Jones is looking very frail, and should retire to that ranch perhaps. The top intelligence officer for US is depicted as a complete idiot.....as they usually are. Mass shootings in the street with thousands of rounds being fired.............a bit non-realistic.....as it usually is. Gone are the strong silent types with heavy conversations in dark places.....the actors..........Kevin can do it, just needs less guns and bangs perhaps..........
To be fair have never liked the Australian truck driver that is Crowe. Believe he probably not a nice person. He almost ruined Gladiator, as he was not only a poor actor, but whole persona was more car-park than arena. Kirk Douglas was small, but pulled it off with his dynamics.
Odd moments are quite well done, and Ryan's daughter (so to speak) is excellent. Will see more of her for sure. Ryan did his best and Crowe waddles through it as he now does.
If have had a few beers will probably enjoy more than if sat expecting something better
Good film for kids. Action and colour and animals. No expensive names in this one, for once. Must be a bonus.
Jeremy Irons always worth watching, plus can hear every word he says, bonus! Imitation Game with Benedict way up there at top of the maths books, the Man Who Knew Everything say second. Shame they never had any info on Ramanujan's earlier life. Education must have been very very basic for a low caste Indian in Madras. Where did he get any input into algebra and just the way to write the equations etc. Pure Maths is up on basic algebraic functions. Even if self taught he would need some input to start, and the books..............
Would never have guessed was Cohen Bros until stated at end of film. Clever take offs of old films. Amazed can still find dancers and swimmers to re-produce the old routines, although not sure know why one would want to. Light enough to fill a gap, but not ground breaking for sure.
Cannot recall the clever film which ended with the fictitious astronaut escaping the false dome in the desert...a take on the idea they never went to the moon at all.
Starts off with 4 totally unlikely professional scientific pilot types. One goes straight from a bender to the mission. A mission that is also totally unlikely. Ends up with a form of zombie/cannibal thing. Not sure if was supposed to be a serious film or not. Someone lost money along the line for sure
Fairly old film now, and bit slow by modern standards, but is pretty solid lump. Pretty continuous progression with no stupid gaffs or breaks. Gene is a bit like Walter in Charley Varrick, getting old, but lots of cunning learnt along the way..............tiny bit quicker, with some stronger younger co-stars and be a 4.
Amazing graphics now. Texture has improved now and hard to fault. The US films always have to have strong American accents, of course. Mowgli straight out of Brooklyn. Sabu, the original, had an Asian air that was slightly more in keeping.
Watch Network, with Peter Finch, to see the power of the press. Great film. Quite a few hostage/TV-coverage films, Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon had media support as well................Film jogs along and keeps attention, so worth a 3.
Bit of a mess after half way. At the end what happened to the Dutch lady, the team?? More importantly, the Charles Grodin lookalike driver, with whom Tom has a rapport, and who a lot of the film revolves around, just evaporates, and we spin around to the lady doctor. The whole point of being in Saudi is lost, Tom looks younger than has done of late, but agent got wrong film for him, or editor left it all on cutting room floor.
Spot the Harry Palmer/Michael Caine character. Could never see the Bond girl as any good at at being on screen. Is really a TV film, but is not bad to be fair. Could be 2.5 stars to be fair...........
Two top men do OK, but could do better with proper direction/production? Kept thinking of another film abroad, where the inspector knows the suspect, and cannot quite pin him down...............
Must have missed this when came out. Follows Wyatt's actual life quite closely. Little bit clean and stylised, as would expect (the US loves their guns and cowboys, although the actual era was very short lived once the railways came) but goes along quite smoothly for a long film. No excess violence and exploding heads, more a documentary type execution. Tough, rough, times. Interesting that Wyatt cleaned up Dodge by banning guns! Maybe a lesson should have been learnt??? Pity no modern day Wyatt in the US...............
