Very loosely based on an old picture of 3 mountain boy moonshiners.
Guy Pearce has to work hard to be a perverse special deputy to somehow give a good guys image to the violent bootleggers. Another sorry era in American history with the film boys attempting to create some nostalgia and empathy.
Violence and guns appears to be a strong vein running through all the past.
Will never have the impact of the first film, but has a go to string it along a bit further. All the battleship things have been done really well, and a lot, since.
The last 2 Startreks were pretty adequate.
Skywalker had a one spot, no talk, run to the bank, job.
Had a job recognising the Princess at first.
Maintains the 2 hours pretty well. If not for the earlier films, would prob not cut ice. The fans will love it..........
America rules again, apparently. Reminds me a bit of Marooned with Gregory Peck. In that the Russians helped out, in Martian is the Chinese.
Almost a remake formula. Greg was prob the Matt of his day .
Will not be the same long term effect as 2001 or Silent Running.........Bruce Dern the botanist on that one, and made his name.
Amazes me they still have to hotch potch old films to come up with a story board..........give Terry Gilliam a stab at space! Be black holes everywhere, mainly in the budget. Bet you get something novel though!
Bit of an old film now but does have some funny/zany moments. 1979! Steve dwindled a bit, doing Bilko was a big error for sure. Trains Boats and Automobiles, All of Me, and House-sitter prob a few of his better ones.
Hard to remember when Neeson did Schindlers List, and quite a few acting roles without guns.
He seems to do nothing but seedy ex-cop/vigalante type films now. He does do them pretty well though. Bit like Hopkins becoming the serial nutcase killer.......... far cry from his previous roles
Bit like the little Brit made films that are sometimes done....but US style.........actually quite tight and well acted. Even Reece keeps her twangy vocals to normal level.
Matthew is pretty much spot on. Refreshing to see the yanks can actually pull one out sometimes!
Monty Python meets In Bruges? Well, not quite........In Bruges was a great film. This is probably a fantastic film to the few odd people that managed to trump up the funds to make it.
Come back Terry Gilliam, all is forgiven. His films were odd and zany, and a bit zig-zag, but they were lively, fun, and colourful.
This is dour, lacking credibility, and a bit sick to be frank............
J K has done lots of support parts over the years. Comedy and gangster/cop, so this is a new avenue. Shows all that work was not wasted.
A credible film, and executed quite tight. Just shows you don't necessarily need exploding livers and cars to maintain audience connection.
Lot like National Security meets Mall Cop. Lot better than the latter, but not as clever as the first. Good fun though and not over-the-top effing and blinding for once..................
To be fair never bothered to watch it for very long, as just another US film about folks dossing around
My wife couldn't get the long clips in Paris Texas, but at least the Ry Cooder music stays in your head, and could get some empathy with Harry Dean Stanton as Travis. Had something quirky going for it.
Third of the way through the film I couldn't care less what happens to Gere's character.
Lots of filmotography stuff going on. Never seems to gell. Just depicting the lower levels of American society, and the wasted people therein.............
Watch out for Midnight Run man Charles Grodin as the father in law! 80 years old! About the most interesting thing in the film, unless you are American of course.
Had it in comedy section, but when watched, is more like an acting movie/drama. Once again displays an uncertain and slightly unhappy side of American middle age.
Supposedly hilarious. Has some light moments, but has a sad, slightly despondent facet to it..........
Simon gone to US to make some extra money, now to OZ. Billy C in Beautiful Joe way better film.
Almost everyone in it ends up dead, and the special effects blood squirts are in full use. Bit like a TV film, but goes along. Pegg OK in Hot Fuzz and Run Fat Boy Run, easy money in Startreks, but not convinced is a box-office attraction to be fair.............
Documentary type re-enactment of US getting confused about mortgages and banks and ripping off. Sadly pretty accurate, and found its way over the Atlantic to UK.
Guy does the right thing, and probably carries the can................
Not quite sure where the peter Pan thing is in all this, but does not compute. Jackman does a good job of his part, and the barbarian princess is very ornamental, but think will keep with Dustin Hoffman in Hook...........
