A faithful remake of Ikuri., with a classic performance by Bill Nighy, ably assisted by Aimee Lee Wood. Script by
Kazua Ishiguro portrays the ' buttoned up'
English demeanour perfectly.
I found it moving and highly watchable, provoking me to ruminate over what I would do knowing I had only 6 months to live.
Richard Gere plays the egotistical charming lawyer to perfection.
Edward Norton as the victim being defended ( his first film) is sensational.
Laura Linley as the prosecutor plays her part with great aplomb
The plot keeps you on your toes and moves along with good pace so 2 hours goes bye easily.
The extras at the end are also worth a watch.
Enjoy.
To make a thriller set during one night with one set is not easily done, but this film does it brilliantly.
Great acting from all especially Mark Rylance. Many clever twists and turns to keep the audience on their toes.
Most satisfying.
I had read the book sometime ago, which I enjoyed, but the film bought the story alive, and the scenery was stunning, which lent much atmosphere to the story.
Well worth the time spent watching.
All the GOOD reviews echo my thoughts.
Frances McDormond is a truly exceptional
actor and she displays that talent in this film.
It has all the elements of a great film
Pathos, humour, laughter and tears, but ultimately a lesson that life is for living the way you wish.
Most enjoyable. I will be watching it again.
Will Smith became Richard Williams. His best film so far. The cast that made up the family were most convincing, you could feel their closeness.
Very informative about the determination of Richard, Serena and Venus. Their success is well deserved.
It showed the real life of tennis on the circuit and the route to the top.
What happens when a film gets transferred to DVD? Over 2/3 of this film was so darkly lit that i could only follow it by the dialogue.
Although Set in an old gothic manor house,
everyone did not need to move around in the dark, perhaps they could not afford the bill!!
I feel like asking for my money back.
A pity as it sounded promising.
Excellent performance from Lady Gaga.
That being said, it was sad to see the demise of such a great business although it comes good in the end.
A sad tale of those who know the cost of everything, and the value of nothing.
Very dark in places, dont they have electric lights there? Subtitles would help.
A film if you have absolutely nothing else going on in your life.
Although emotionally dark at times, it was a very interesting look at the real life of Roald Dahl and Patricia Neal, and how their lives changed after the death of their daughter Olivia.
Thankfully they came through.
Well worth watching if you like real life stories.
TERRIFIC. A real acting treat.
It Is as relevant today as when it was first released in 1976. Just shows how nothing ever really changes.
Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall and William Holden give excellent performances, but it is Peter Finch who steals the show.
SUPERB
Too much gratuitous violence, unnecessary
Bad language and too many vicious sex scenes. Pity these good actors toom these roles.
A great ensemble cast. Each character superbly cast in their role.
Made me smile and the comedy lines were delivered with great timing.
Thoroughly enjoyed the time watching.
Intriguing. Did he do it, or didnt he?
It did keep me guessing for quite a while.
Hugh Grant did a very good job of sucking you in with his charm offensive. Nicole Kidman looked very beautiful, but was stilted in her performance.
Donald Sutherland added much gravitas.
An enjoyable watch.
Disturbing. Horrifying to think it could really happen without much evidence and without proper legal process.
Does the means justify the end?
Definately worth watching, but at times i thought i was listening to a radio play as it was so dark and almost impossible to see the characters on the screen.
Most directors seem to think that darkness adds to the atmosphere...twilight maybe, pitch black does not.
