This film depicts over whelming human tenacity and courage. The will to keep going against all the odds is amazing and the fact that it's a true story is almost beyond belief.
Although harrowing at times it is worth 2 hours of your time.
Although i enjoyed this film, especially knowing it was a true story, i struggle with the fact that all Scandi films are shot in
Near darkness .Even indoors there is only ever one small lamp on....do they believe it adds to the atmosphere or is their electricity rationed?
I've been a fan since Rawhide and i am never disappointed by his renditions.
Even in his advanced years, he delivers a very watchable film.
His stories usually have a moral ending and this is no different and is even better given the story is based on reality.
His acting makes you beleive and sympathise with this character. His direction is flawless, as always.
Funny and sad in equal proportions.
Worth 2 hours of your time.
A story of an obsessive love of money.
A grandson left to suffer dreadfully because Getti ( the grandfather) would not get involved with the rescue.
Not easy watching, but a lesson in how not to beleive money is all. In the end, you cant take it with you...
A pity Kevin Spacey was replaced as i think he would had added a different dimension to the character of Getty, although Plummer does a good job.
A very watchable film. A true story of one mans 20 year fight to get justice for ordinary people being water poisoned by the
polluting waste of a big corporation. Shows what companies can do to avoid their responsibilities when they have unlimited funds.
It also show shows what fortitude some have to keep going when the odds are against, them. It also educates us to the chemicals
that are in products we use everyday.....amazing and worrying.
Lovely to see Tim Robbins albeit in a small role.
Definitely worth 2 hours of your time
Based on a novel, but does not come up to standard as a film. Characters were flimsy and the script loose. Violence too gratuitous.
Very disappointing. Does not deserve the high rating.
Not quite what i thought it would be.
Seemed more like a skit than a real life story.
Scarce on drama line, but good acting by Streep and Maclaine. I think it was more a vehicle to show off the two stars though. If the singing was done by Meryl Streep, then i am impressed.
Cannot imagine why Gene Hackman did such a cameo.
It passes time if you are bored one afternoon and have nothing else to do.
Both Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen are on top form in this very enjoyable caper.
Just the thing for a cosy watch on a dismal day.
I recommend it.
