This is a very rewarding watch, which I only fully appreciated when I thought it through afterwards. The constant cutting back and forth keeps you on your toes, as often the differences between years and characters are not that marked. The story covers at least 50 years and shows the stoicism of the ordinary citizen, but also the huge changes that they have had to deal with. You will need to stay awake, but it will be worth it
An interesting film full of "in" references, but way too long and too violent. I felt that there was a good story in there but it was smothered by the Directors self indulgence.
What a shame. All of the gentle subtlety, and understated humour of the original Nick Park films have been sacrificed to the brash formulae of the American market.
Reading many of the reviews, we were apprehensive about choosing this film, but we enjoyed it. Yes there was some over acting and self indulgence, but on the whole we found it to be an intelligent take on an unknown part of the Bard's life with lots of references to his works. We would fault the use of modern gas fires more than the script.
