Pixar have made some of the most near-perfect films of our generation.
But this is just ... OK. It's the sort of by-the-numbers Pixar copies that Dreamworks make. It's not actually "bad", but (for Pixar) it's embaressing.
The footage they've licensed (as I understand) from the BFI is very, VERY good.
You normally see the same few clips on TV programmes, but I had seen very little of the stuff here. It was new to me, and very interesting.
However, the script/voiceover is fairly basic and non insightful.
The footage is really, REALLY good. I've watched a lot of re-enactor type content, especially the Victorian Farm/Green valley series.
But it's simply a joy to see people doing tasks who can REALLY do them. The seed broadcaster was a wonder to behold (yes, I'm a nerd).
This feels like some poor script writer was given a bullet point list
* becomes a pilot
* meets Chewbacca
* acquires the Millenium Falcon
* does the Kessel run in 12 parsecs (which is a unit of LENGTH not time, btw)
And simply joined the dots. The 30 second long high point was how they introduced Chewbacca.
One for completists only.
Lesser than the original in almost every regard - music not so good, imagery less impressive, plot more obvious.
