My advice is don't bother. 2 great stars picked up a very easy pay check. There were a few interesting moments (like them getting separated) which should have led to something but they didn't. People watching their slides was very random. Kept thinking it would lead to something but again, no!
Acting - superb
Cinematography - looking through a goldfish bowl didn't work for me
Music - mind numbingly appalling
Through some of the scenes there is a 2 tone noise that does nothing to add to atmosphere, it just makes you want to scream. Not sure what the director wanted to achieve by this but if it was to have people shouting 'make it stop' then he achieved his aim.
Coleman, Weisz and Stone put in stellar performances but let down by a director who wanted to turn this art-house.
TYPICAL OSCAR FODDER
Don't know if I've rated higher because of the dross we've been seeing but this was nicely acted and a decent story. Worth a watch.
The story started well but it didn't go anywhere. Lots of characters with absolutely no purpose. Not worth your time.
We really wanted to like this but you lose track of who they are chasing, you don't know where they are, you don't know how many are left to get and Eric Banas character is totally unlikeable so you are not routing for him.
150 mins felt like 4 hours!!!
Whenever I see a 'true story' I always have a look at the end to see just how true it really is. In this case what you see, is what actually happened.
This film has been produced by the couples son, he has made it as a loving tribute to 2 incredible parents. What you see (however implausible) is the truth. All the stuff in France in the layby actually happened. I thought that it must have been made up, but no.
A terrific story, well acted.
The story was predicable yes but this was a team of fine actors who all put in very natural performances to make the whole thing very believable. Was it sugar coated? Yes of course. Was every step signposted? Yes. This won't win prizes for originality but I got the impression that they loved making this film and their teamwork translated through the screen.
We enjoyed it for what it was, a simple British film well done.
I hate seeing that the director has cast themselves, never a good sign. Branagh in the Poirot role was not a good fit, neither was his moustache. Branagh mutters and along with the train chuffing along, it made sound clarity a nightmare at the start.
All the star turns are a waste of time as they simply don't bring anything to the party as they have nothing to sink their teeth into. It just feels like they happened to be passing by when the film was being made.
Someone mentioned they liked the unusual shots, we thought the camera on the ceiling effect was awful so it must be personal opinion as to whether it works for you or not.
I was bored I'm afraid. I've not seen any version of this film before but feel there must be an earlier version that is better than this!
Perhaps the real Richard Loving was really dreary in true life, if so then this movie did a good job of representing him. If he had an ounce of spark then this film did him a huge dis-service. A landmark position in history, just a shame that it didn't involve more dynamic people. Movie is totally boring which you feel it shouldn't be given the subject. Such a shame.
This does just what it says on the tin. If you liked Oceans 11 then you'll like this. You kind of miss the guys though (Clooney, Pitt and Damon) but the ladies all fit in to the stereotype previously set quite well. Bit confused why Rihanna was in it but hey! Good fun! Nothing deep, nothing to think about.
Didn't watch it as I was told it was not good! I sent straight back, a lot of poor movies being made currently.
Predictable from the moment it starts. We knew it was going to be bad when we saw that the producers were the 2 main stars. This means it is an ego project, which is precisely what it turned out to be. Great actors, terrible script.
Great actors, rubbish script! Can't say any more. The endings are sign posted so absolutely no surprises anywhere in the movie. Avoid as total garbage. Easy money for everyone.
Mind boggling that it is based on truth. Just shows how corrupt politics really is. A very enjoyable film.
We have only given up on a handful of films in the last 12 years of being with film clubs but I'm afraid this had us beat. It was so dull that after 1 hour of not knowing what was going on we finally decided to abandon and hit the eject button. We then turned to the internet to find out the answers to what we were missing about this movie. We found very quickly that we were joining a whole community of people who had done exactly the same as us. This film is terrible, everyone says how good the book is (can't comment) but it doesn't transfer to the film. Reading the spoilers we realised that we didn't miss much. Perhaps we just missed the point but it was going nowhere fast. Add to the mix characters that you truly don't care about and you have the perfect recipe for a bad movie.
My advice is to avoid like the plague.
