My initial assumption that they speak English in New Zealand was challenged dramatically by watching the first 10-15 minutes of this title.
However, we stuck with it and the "Gaffer in charge of elocution" must have turned up for work on the second day as things eventually improved.
The story was then enjoyable. The production value is more than adequate and the ending has a nice pay-off.
Well worth watching, stick with it through the mumbled Kiwi start and you won't be disappointed.
Considering how enjoyable The Kingsman was, the prequel is lackluster.
The first act runs for almost an hour so you need to be willing to stick with it as we learn how the secret society came to be.
The action scenes don't grab and it's almost a relief when the end credits roll.
If you're not a Marvel fan and into every Marvel movie and character this will just be a mildly decent film.
There are external references (to other Marvel movies) that will mean nothing to you.
Two young siblings are separated from each other and their family when the cover-life they are living with their parents is shattered and they are forced to leave their home.
The story then picks up several years later.
What has happened to them? And what was real and what was not?
Almost non-stop action for the first hour, then the story evolves.
This movie moves along at a pace that is fitting for a story set in a small US town.
The story is well underway before the plot starts. A woman frustrated with the police's inability to find her daughter's killers.
It's a gripping tale of the lengths the woman will go to for perceived justice.
I usually stay away from romance, love stories, and the like but thought I would give this a chance.
And I wasn't disappointed. Yes, it's a love story, but also merged with the escape elements you might find in a good action movie, complete with nasty guards.
No spoilers, so I'll leave you to find the ending for yourself.
I chose this movie on the strength of the cast. Scarlett Johansson, no less.
But the story is almost non-existent. The protagonist, Johannsson, has no goals, she goes where she's told.
Okay, she's a cybernetic creature but she is supposed to have a human brain. I saw no evidence of it.
A disappointment and one I should have given a miss.
No spoilers because you should already know this story.
The first part of the movie I found difficult to watch because it shows real life-changing suffering.
But it's necessary so we can see the second part of the story, catching the villains, which was easier to watch.
The story is played out through the eyes of a police officer right in the middle of the event and then in identifying and catching the perpetrators.
A good film that shows us there are real villains in the world and real heroes to challenge and defeat them.
Tom Cruise never disappoints and this, the second Jack Reacher movie from Cruise, doesn't disappoint either.
Reacher is a nomad, a ghost who doesn't believe in the law, just in right and wrong. He will appear when needed to ensure justice prevails against all the odds.
In this story, Jack arrives in town to meet with a female army major who he has spoken with but never met. But when he arrives at her offices he finds she has been arrested, accused of espionage. Jack is told to stay clear but you know that isn't going to happen.
Action all the way.
(No spoliers) The Guest is an easy-to-watch action-packed movie. A grieving family welcomes a friend of their lost son into their home. But not everything is what it seems.
