This is a slow but poignant tale which raises many questions. Rutger Hauer's fine, understated and dignified performance is award-worthy. This superbly made film and Hauer's mesmerising performance engaged me throughout and left me wanting to find out more about Joseph Roth and his writing.

This was recommended to me and although I did not think it would appeal, i was wonderfully surprised. This film is very well crafted, cast and scripted, with fine acting from Rolf Laasgard and Bahar Pars . While the film is very moving, it is also very funny- I almost want to watch it again to see Ove on his morning rounds. This is my favourite film of 2017.

A well-crafted film with very good performances from the actors, particularly Daniel Auteuil. It was wonderful to experience rural life and traditions.

An engrossing tale of an Irish immigrant and the pull of her home country. capturing well the hustle and bustle of cosmopoltan New York and the comparative confines of small town Ireland. Yes, not much action as some have noted, (and I have critised some films recently for this) but in this case, there is plenty to think about and engage you in terms of the dilemmas faced along the way, Beautifully controlled acting with great cinematography and sets/ costume faithful to the era.

Was keen to see this after all the hype, but gravely disappointed and struggle to see how this won Oscars. It was miserable from beginning to end, with only some brief hope when Chiron's mother was getting help and when we discovered that Kevin had started a new life and was happy. Not much happened at all in the last third and there was not the hoped-for insight into Chiron as an adult. This film did not engage me and I felt I had wasted time watching it-I don't know what the film was hoping to elicit from its audience or show them. A miserable, non-illuminating and overlong experience.
