Great subject matter, as are most quality foreign language films. Beautifully filmed, with great empathy for the lady in her role as the central character, who fights against a money grabbing property developer, who wants to buy her apartment, eradicating her her and memories of bring up a loving well adjusted family, so that he could further develop the site on which she lives. So much more depth to this film than the usual sex, violence drugs car chasing superficial American blockbuster drivel contained in that country's pathetic offerings.
Get absorbed into this well made film. It's worth it.
This film was about two youngsters, which was the wrong age setting for me, only watched part of it, because it did not reflect old school French culture as used it used to do before it started to make american style , sex violent drugs base ball caps and all socially useless manifestations of a morally bankrupt depraved war mongering so called society.
I am a besotted francphile and further more, I think that continental films are head and shoulders above the violent, drug crazed, sex sodden block buster trash that comes out of america, but, I have to say watching this film, with the two of my favourite actors, Auteuil, Darroussin et al, was like going to the theatre to see a average play, the story line had possibilities, the acting was fake, and more like an un-funny shallow farce. It hurts to castigate a French Arthouse film, however, on this occasion, I thought about returning the disc before watching the whole film through.
I thought I would try something different, but, this one which no doubt is really superb, I really couldn't go the distance. Sorry.
If ever the Sun or Mail did a representation of this great man, they would disgorge themselves of all that is of the dark side regarding this great indidual, who is nobody's fool! and is certainly cognisant of how being poor is political, eg; the demon relating to all of the poverty that exists in South American countries, is at the behest of that behemoth monster of world wide terrorism's dark corporate war business's of that cess-pit usa.
Great Film from every respect by this of real master of genuine art house films, THE MAN IS >>>>>Emir Kusterica; he knows where it's @!
Myles Dexter
Really did show the real integral CUBA, without the infantile banal over the top American action movie influence. It starts off with an off putting young American tourist, baseBall cap T-shirt Nike trainers and all that cocky nonsense, this nearly made me immediately turn the DVD player off and send back the disk, Next day returned to playing it agin and then found it totally interesting with all of the rest of the stars in the movie, most intriguing though was the vignette stariing Emir Kursterica, by the end, one felt that one had spent a few days on the island before the yanks again take it over and make their vice capital again when they manage to out the encumbent leader, and replace him with another puppet in there to govern the place, like Batista, before Castro threw them out on the day of BAY OF THE PIGS operation.
