Interesting film about the entry of Austria into the WW1 against the Italians in their Alpine Regions. How much of the film is based on real facts with suitable embellishments is hard to tell.
The Italians seem more prepared compared to the Austrian reservists? But progress is slow and the sub plot of relationships that existed before the war at times are more of a hinderance than add clarity to the film.
Interesting film about Lorenzo, a teenager living in Patagonia, who has his sights awakened by the arrival of Caito, the son of his fathers one time best friend, and who opens Lorenzo to a new take on life. Not sure whether some of the impact the film was trying to make got lost in the sub tiles not being a native Spanish speaker. Good to look at and the chemistry between Lorenzo and Caito held the film together.
An interesting film covering the Beat Generation during their time at Columbia University, but with such a wealth of characters to cope with the screenplay within the limited time it had could only gloss over their frailties as well as their good points. The fact that they survived and became successes in their right, is sort of glossed over, which for me is a failing of the film, assuming we already knew what had become of them.
A complete waste of a rental, the film was so dire and the sting from the cast who I suppose were trying their best to meet the directors instructions was that they were giving the impression lets get this over with ASAP!!
An interesting film about an American airman who had to parachute from his damaged bomber after taking part in the air raid of Tokyo shortly after Pearl Harbour over China, and his exploits after being taken in by a Widow and her daughter who also card and looked after his injuries. Showed the atrocities the Japanese inflicted on the Chinese locals for any involvement with the enemies of Japan be they be Chinese or foreign. Intermix a love story and you have a very watchable film which keeps you guessing right up to the end. I enjoyed it!
Interesting film set in two tranches about 20 years apart, but with a tenuous link running through the film. Watchable but for me the problem was that with the flashbacks I found myself getting mixed signals as to what was actually going on!
A film that could have been better with some careful culling, but at 102 minutes it drags. At times whilst watching it I found my mind wandering such was the languid nature of the action. Not a film I could recommend.
Action, yes, computer graphics excellent, and a themed running story of the destruction of Chongqing and the resilience of the local population in handling the pressure of the Japanese wanting to destroy their city. It is not a classic but once I got into it the time just seemed to fly by, helped in no way by the amazing cast of local residents and how they were coping with the bombing and at the same time being engrossed in a local MAHJONG competition. Some of the aerial graphics were excellent and whilst Bruce Willis was to the fore, there was an excellent cameo performance from Adrian Brody as a Surgeon trying his hardest to save lives with bombs falling around him.
After a couple of episodes the film became so predictable it became a very boring and a sleep inducing film!
Interesting film about how a father uses his daughters electronic world to try and trace her after she goes missing. Not helped by the police lead officer (very interesting performance from Debra Messing), who has her own private agenda, plus issues with close family members clouding the scene. Not an outstanding film but very watchable for a bad weather day!
Thought provoking film showing the rigours the fire fighters in parts of the US have to go through two enable them to undertake their tasks with the threat that their lives could be risk!
Curious piece of cinema looking back at a period of time I can remember but looked at it from the periphery as I had yet to move to London on a permanent basis. Selected items I could relate too, but other parts were to me a work of fiction, as I had no idea if they were based on reality. Watchable but I had difficulties getting to grips with the life etc of the lead players!
A strange film about Saul, a worker, at a death camp, where we are not told who believes he has found the body of an illegitimate son and he wants to bury him. The film evolves around his duties at the camp and his desire to find a Rabbi who can give the child a funeral! OK for the first 20 minutes, but then it becomes an obsession of following him around the camp trying to find a Rabbi who could bury the boy. From this point on the film loses it way and becomes boring to the point that I felt my sub conscious trying to take me in other directions! For me personally a wasted rental.
Interesting concept to centre a film around the genocide of the ARMENIANS in1914/15 at the hands of the TURKISH. The problem was too many interwoven story lines, that made it difficult to fully understand just what was happening, and why it was! Visually good to look at and the location shots were excellent.
If you are a gay footballer but in the closet this a film for you. It will highlight the choices, options you have as to whether you remain closeted or open and the issues that can arise from either option
