the pity was the rest of the film did not live up to it, and the actors were left trying to contrive performances to suit I presume the wishes of the Director! My friend watching with me fell asleep which says it all! Definitely not a thriller!!
Really enjoyed the film and with a significant railway connection and as a devote "anorak" I really enjoyed this film but would have liked to know of the break down of relations with MANTOSH the other adopted Indian child. Stunning performances form the cast,
Was this a made for TV film that the TV companies rejected hence its appearance on DVD? Focusing on one very small price of action would have been fine if the story line had had any substance to it! The opportunities were there to expose the failings of the Allies in not realising what was taking place and almost allowing the Germans to break through, but was that not acceptable?
A very watchable remake of the classic Ealing Comedy. Sticks very closely to the book, but did feel that some of the characterisations could have been a little sharper than they were.
I am now seriously considering avoiding short film collections on the basis that all the good ones have already been included in compilations and distributors are looking to the next level down to meet the demand. Not one of these films inspired me, or made me sit up and think what message are they trying to get accross!
I was riveted by this film and the odious position the King of Norway was facing with the German invasion of his country, the intrigues within the occupying forces and their counterparts in the diplomatic corp and trying to do the best he can for his country and people. Placed a different view of WW2, from a country being invaded for no apparent reason at all and also the shock the King received when informed his own brother the King of Denmark had had to capitulate to the Germans, after they overran Denmark.
Intersting film about Elias, a young 23 year old with talent as a designer at a clothing manufacturer, but who starts to let the distance between his private and professional life close to the point where it starts to raise issues! Watchable film, but at times the story line seemed to be being stretched to fill out the film to cinematic length.
A complete waste of a rental, with a film so boring that I almost fell asleep. The acting minimal as was the storyline, with an ending that left an awful lot to be desired.
Apart from an excellent performance from Christopher Plummer and Janet McTear as the Kaiser and his wife, this film was designed to be watchable on a very rainy day with nothing else to do!
For the first 60 minutes I was beginning to wonder why I had rented the film, as I was almost falling asleep as it was so boring, fortunately the second half did improve and there were laughs, but like a fellow reviewer one sequel to far!
The denouement of this sets disc's is OK in the end but the disjointed nature of the editing did not help the continuity of the storyline. Not a feature I can readily recommend.
Interesting film about a manipulative teenager sending out a series of signals that he is sexually active one way to attract other people to his cause! Works to a plan to achieve what he wants regardless of the impact it has on the people who he gets to help him. At times the film dragged and the ending became convoluted, but was still watchable!
Mis fit Harriet who is expelled from the Girl Guides and who sets up her own band of friends to monitor the war for her home town and assist a family who have been branded as lovers of Germany on the basis that before the war their daughter/sister fell in love and married a German.
The younger son of the family has epilepsy but recognises that some thing is not right when he sees regular lights being flashed at night. Enter Harriet and her team who bring the film to a fitting denouement and the villain is caught. Throughly enjoyed it and was kept engrossed until the final credits.
Yet another made for TV series of vignette's covering the life of Nate, still hopelessly in love with his ex and making a mess of everything for himself and those unfortunate to be associated with him. There was nothing in this set of 8 episodes that stood out and I was glad when they finished, not sure I would want to watch series 2 if released in the UK.
Excellent French thriller with some many plot twists to keep one guessing until the end of the film as to what is actually happening plot wise and the twists and turns kept one on the edge of your seat until the end.
