Starts off quite slick but soon develops the usual conspiracy cliches.Michael Douglas is looking old & tired but Sutherland keeps it moving along.
I did not realise when I ordered this film,That it was a remake of SEVEN DAYS IN MAY.This is an excellent redo but having seen the original,I thought that that was better.
Worth seeing if you have not seen the Burt Lancaster one.
I nearly gave this 4,perhaps 3& a half.Brutal film showing the real life of the early colonists. The indians came over as savages not the Hollywood portrayal.Scenery was
excellent showing the harshness of the land. The ending was not the happy Hollywood one but more realistic.I did not know any of the actors but they played their parts
well.Worth watching.
Excellent story with all the best British actors.Pity I have only Disc 1 so do not know the ending although I have seen the American version with
Russell Crowe(Why do the yanks have to remake our stuff-why cannot they just accept & see our version?).
I will look out for more of Paul Abbotts work.
I was surprised that Emma Thompson showed a full frontal nude scene. This could have been a stage play as all the action takes place in one hotel room with only two
main characters.Very clever dialogue & well acted holding your attention all the time. This should be seen by all adults especially older women.
This was the 3rd Film of Martin & Lewis & cemented their act on the screen.Although I laughed at their first film back in the fifties,I found this dated & not at all humorous.
It was obviously from a stage play as apart from the nightclub scene all the action is in the offices of HQ.Lewis tends to overact the fool whilst Martin croons a couple of
humdrum songs.Poor.
This Film was banned in England for 15 years when the Mods & Rockers were about but seems tame now.Brando stands out with his method acting & set the scene for future
rebels but otherwise I cannot se why critics raved over it.
Putting method actor Brando with suave British actor Niven looked like a mismatch but it works. The two go well together. The story line is a bit unbelievable but rather clever.
An enjoyable comedy.
A pleasant film but rather dated when you compare the love scenes to todays erotic sexual displays.I did not like Walbrook giving a commentary-I thought it silly.
Do not understand JK,s comments re the subtitles-I put mine on the Tv & could read every word.It may have been shocking in its day but I do not think it deserves the
praise it gets in reviews.
Excellent film.Starts off slow but gets better\could.have been a stage play as all action takes place in one room.Mark Rylance is perfect as usual & acts the part well.
Quite a few surprises & twists makes a good story.
Confusing start but gets better later.Oldman is excellent & I liked the"Femme Fatale".Plot is a bit far fetched towards the end but entertaining.Pity they do not make more
Pictures like this rather than the Robocop car
chases.
A violent crime drama reminiscent of the Godfather but better when you realise it is based on fact.Good performances from the Gang & realistic settings. Unfortunately the
situation in Italy remains the same-corruption in the State,Vatican,Masonic Lodges & the Mafia-all tied uptogether. An excellent film of qualty.
Pleasant film which I enjoyed-nothing spectacular but well acted-Peter S. did a good British accent & was a charmer.Expected ending .
Enjoyable Agatha Christie type play showing how catty women can be.No male characters but still a good story with a surprise ending.I thought the musical numbers were
not needed & were a light hearted distraction from a serious tale.
B&W film with appearances from stars early in their careers.Lot of dialogue at the start with Kew riverside being in most scenes.Interesting although I found the ending a bit far
fetched-why did she go to Boyd with her theory when she knew the truth.Pity Boyd died early in real life.Worth seeing.
