What a disappointment, the story-line is good but there was a lot of over-acting and a typical hapless female trope. It could have been a good thriller or a good comedy. I'm surprised Nicholas Cage took part in it and his acting was poor.
If you are undecided whether to watch it or not, don't waste your time.
This is a film which I enjoyed as I was not familiar with the story or the original Swedish film. Just goes to show how one's life experiences can impact on our personality and interactions with others. Tom Hanks played Otto very well and it was good to see some other good actors I had never seen before, including his son.
An enjoyable spy film especially with the lead being a female, very well played by Jennifer Lawrence. It has a good cast, has its highlights and faults but overall a good escapist film which I recommend. Also it's perhaps relevant to the invasion of Ukraine.
As a person who really likes pigs I was very disappointed to find that the Pig was only in the film for a short time. This is a shame as it was more interesting than some of the acting, however I thought Nicolas Cage was very good. Regarding his character, it's not very intelligent to stand there and get repeatedly punched without defending yourself. Pigs on the other hand, being very intelligent, would not allow that to happen.
Many people in the UK born after WW2 don't know about the role Polish airmen and soldiers played in defeating the Nazis. This film tries to correct that by focussing on the brave airmen. However the Brits were portrayed as being a bit too racist at times and the Poles were portrayed as being too rowdy and rebellious, in this film. The overall story and effects were good though. Being born of Polish refugee parents I know the Poles took their roles seriously, but they knew how to have a good time and maintain their culture, and integrate into life in the UK. Many didn't want to return to a Poland ruled by the Soviets.
However many felt betrayed by the agreements made at the Yalta conference, including not being part of the victory parade, as depicted in this film.
Let's not forget all the other soldiers, sailors and airmen from other countries who fought on our side too. We won because we worked together.
Lady Gaga did well with her acting and singing, Bradley Cooper’s acting however wasn’t very good and it was often difficult to understand what he was saying, another male actor was also difficult to understand. There were some good songs though.
Additionally the sound levels on the DVD were not consistent, the speech was too quiet and the music too loud.
I’m glad I didn’t pay to go and see this film at the cinema.
This film is basically about love vs. prejudice. There is far too much of the latter in the world.
Some reviewers I think are being too cerebral about this film, it’s just a fantasy.
I was looking forward to seeing this film but it is too satirical and not very funny, in fact I hardly laughed. Not worth watching.
This film starts well and gets very interesting but then fails at the end with no real ending, is there a sequel pending?
