This must be one of Anthony Hopkins's finest and most challenging of performances. Brilliant. Moved me beyond words.
This is a film about sexual abuse and the dreadful implications that can arise. No laughs then but an effective indictment of one the worse crimes imaginable. Good acting from the two principals and the film does end with a glimmer of hope.
This film is pure self indulgence on the part of Michael Moore. The message is clear: America has much to learn from Europe, Probably true. But there is no intellectual or critical depth and so lacks any real impact. And it is far too long .
Set in Calcutta in the 1950's this brilliant film is as relevant now as it was in '63 when it was made.
