I can only think that this was a vanity project bankrolled by one of the stars, because it is a truly dreadful film. However, the soundtrack drives it along so you may just make it to the end without losing the will to live - unlike many of the characters!
What a pretentious load of rubbish - and badly filmed rubbish at that - this was. I have no idea what the director was aiming to achieve, other than a spectacular fail. As for the music, the badly played Maple Leaf Rag was some 20 years or so before its time! This is undoubtedly the worst film I have ever seen/rented.
What a sorry way to write out such an interesting, complex character as Wolverine - and indeed Professor Xavier too. Profanities galore, amazingly high body count and graphic violence - how on earth did this only get a 15 rating - and leaves us with a tribe of young mutants who are already seasoned killers. Not a good film at all.
I guess this was a scary film, especially the ending, but it reworked elements from so many other sci-fi/horror movies - good special effects though, especially conveying how to move around in zero gravity (the extras are very interesting, better than the film!)
The moral of the tale is - if you want to go to Mars, travel with Matt Damon!
Even if Hollywood has taken liberties with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, oh for heaven's sake, this is a story that needed to be told and full marks to all those involved with bringing it to the big screen. It was interesting to think of the word "computers" meaning people who compute, rather than the machines that do so. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this film and have recommended it to our friends and family, including those in the USA. The extras give some good background too.
