Only rent this film if you want to be kept awake through the night following. I wish I had not seen it.
The story drags the mind into it, until the end. Like a true murder. I recommend that only if you're unemotional it might suit you.
I am not generally of a nervous disposition, but I turned this off after about 30 minutes.
How it was given a 'teenager' age rating, seemed to me completely wrong.
Of course, some do revel in dead bodies and madmen....
An 8-yr.old girl, surviving, just, on a farm-- in a household of stress, Money and drink, the reasons.
Then her parents send her to stay with her aunt and uncle-- for a year.
Gradually, she starts to be an average child, through Kindness. Something lacking, at home.
An uplifting, emotion-filled film. (English subtitles....)
The film centres around some young women who work together. Not in the rag trade, a more down-to-earth way
of earning their living.
After finally getting the english subtitling to work, I enjoyed the film very much.
If you are a prude, it might not be for you.
An offbeat film, featuring Charles Aznavour. I watched it twice, (better than tv....)
It may--or may not be to your taste, but being a francophile...........
If you like classic Italian films, in particular, this is a a way of linking them all together, by Carlo di Parma, who worked on most of them.
90 minutes of pleasure.
His eye for the framing, and his exacting colour selection, e.g. "ripe red apple", as opposed to "just a red", when putting a scene together, before filming
improved what would have been a good film, to a wonderful one.
I enjoyed being reminded of all these classic films, often black and white, from the masters of film over several years since WWll.
I don't do ratings often, but this was a must.
I like films from Europe very often, but this one, with well-known actors, disappointed, as I wanted english sub-titles.
Instead, an almost continuous voice, there was a woman's voice, speaking in english,-- when silence would have been more suitable.
The film was longer than it could have been. I turned it off before the end.
This might appeal to younger people, but I switched off halfway.
Not funny or even interesting.
Give it to a charity shop!
Ken Loach is a brilliant film-maker.
There's no denying.
But the human situation portrayed here, is the desperate one of drugtakers and criminals that makes hard viewing.
Having seen Juliette Binoche in sophisticated roles previously, this film showed just how versatile she is!
I am still amazed at how she played this part, so naturally.
A bonus is the part where France partied to celebrate its 200 yrs centenary, with an amazing fireshow over the R.Seine.....
I love a lot of Country Music, but trying to see any merit in this film was difficult. The story was so weak. The acting awful. I do not recommend iit.
A friend told me that he'd seen it, and thought I should see it too.
Having lost a very close partner through illness, much of the film rang true. It brought up all the sad memories I lived through, at that time.
I thought the film perfectly crafted, and was surprised at just how skifully it was made.
I believe it is a film for mature adults.
And a very diappointing rental.
Some teenagers might like it but there' s no guarantee that they will...
I think this film exposes truths too often. I think everyone has heard about some Church priests being involved with sexual abuse.
The plot wasn't credible. I watched it through to the end, and wished I hadn't. The redeeming feature was the actor playing the priest
as he had dignity and soul.
This film takes us back a few years, but has elements of the charm of French Life as it always has been.
I have holidayed in France many times, over the years so much of the story was typically like I saw it.
I was surprised that I am the first to write a few words, as I thought it completely charming........I watched
all the extra takes --and background too.
