Promising Young Woman

Brilliant

(Edit) 11/09/2021

Fabulous film, absolutely gripping, thought-provoking, interesting. Carey Mulligan is superb, as always (she's SUCH an electrifying presence). Highly, highly recommended. Also the soundtrack is excellent.

The Trip to Spain

Self-indulgent & increasingly irritating to watch

(Edit) 28/03/2020

First of all, I love Steve Coogan, don't mind Rob Brydon & adore Spain - so this should have been perfect for me. We enjoyed the first couple of episodes but then found the whole premise increasingly annoying to watch. There's a scene in episode 3 or 4 where they each do endless Roger Moore impressions & by the end of it I literally wanted to scream with frustration!

Not for me, would not recommend, won't be watching any of the other Trips etc.

Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Interesting, sad, beautifully made but by no means a comedy

(Edit) 24/06/2019

Amazed that this has been marketed as a comedy. It really isn't. It's beautifully shot, excellently acted & the soundtrack is absolutely lovely. It's evocative but very melancholy & one part actually made me cry.

So don't watch this expecting anything upbeat or LOL - it really isn't.

PS: Great soundtrack though!

Leave No Trace

Fabulous thoughtful film - lovely

What a tremendous film. Beautifully made, excellent acting, thought-provoking - just perfect. I'd happily watch it again today.

Mandy

Bahahahaha - ridiculous pretentious tripe

(Edit) 01/01/2019

Reminded me of those Sixties arthouse films like Zabriskie Point. Complete drivel - probably slightly more watchable if stoned.

BlacKkKlansman

Wow. What a superb piece of film-making.

(Edit) 30/12/2018

We found this completely gripping, beautifully made, thought-provoking & ultimately very depressing, to have it brought home so clearly how little has changed over the decades. A brilliant film.

Suburbicon

Excellent - seems to be criminally under-rated

(Edit) 14/05/2018

Really can't understand why this film was so poorly reviewed & glad to see that the other review here also enjoyed it. I thought it was beautifully made, well acted & a really clever, thought-provoking story. We both thoroughly enjoyed it.

Very interesting to learn that it's based on an unproduced Coen brothers script. I love their films & this has some of the dark, intelligent humour of those.

Brimstone

Horrible film - felt awful for watching it

(Edit) 11/05/2018

This is the nastiest film I've ever watched - why the hell was it ever made? I reckon I'm pretty toughened to film violence & unpleasant themes & misogyny but this takes the biscuit. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Hateful.
