What Maisie Knew

A film seen through the eyes of a neglected child

(Edit) 08/03/2019

A fascinating look at a child torn between very self absorbed parents, who say they love her but their behaviour suggests the opposite. Very thought provoking & the child actress gives a fine performance throughout.

Our Kind of Traitor

Not as good as hoped.

(Edit) 19/07/2017

I found this film rather boring and predictable, with few re deeming qualities. It had little suspence and although the cast was excellent, this film could have been so much better.

Dead of Winter

Enjoyable thriller

(Edit) 01/06/2017

Over the years I have thought about this film, having seen it once at the cinema and never on TV. It is not a slasher movie, as I've heard it described, but a dark thriller that keeps the viewer guessing. Roddy McDowall is quite creepy in a gentlemanly way and Mary Steenbergen is excellent in the main role and one hopes it will end well for her, especially as her husband sets off rather belatedly, to find her. This film is best watched on a cold, wintry night. Highly recommended.

The Handmaid's Tale

Give this a try- unforgettable!

(Edit) 12/01/2017

I last saw this film about 30 years ago and had vague memories of the story line, but it was something I wanted to see again. It is distressing and unsettling without a doubt. The acting is superb and the late Natasha Richardson is the central character & she gives a stellar performance and it makes one realise what a loss her sad death has been. I was engrossed from beginning to end and hope the story line never, ever becomes a reality!

Red Lights

Disappointing

(Edit) 11/11/2016

I found this film rather mediocre and, in, parts, rather boring although Sigourney Weaver is excellent, in my opinion. The so called twist at the end, was expected and although I'm a great fan of De Niro, I found his performance unmemorable and poor.

Arbitrage

Enjoyable

(Edit) 08/11/2016

This film can't be taken too seriously. The acting was very good and the plot equally interesting, however, I was glad the main character got his come uppance and lost everything due to his selfish lifestyle and his wheeling & dealing. Entertaining and useful on a cold winter's night.
