This is an enjoyable live concert but not what you might expect from the blurb. Firstly, most of the early part is given to guest Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown who sings, plays guitar, violin and harmonica all very well and entertainingly. The Canned Heat by themselves are also pretty good BUT the line up is not what is named on the sleeve and neither Harvey Mandel nor Larry Taylor are present. The musicians are not named in the credits but I am pretty sure that they are...
Bob Hite, lead vocals, harmonica and guitar.
Henry Vestine, lead guitar (black Gibson Les Paul).
Fito de la Parra, drums.
James Shane, guitar and vocals
Richard Hite, bass.
Ed Beyer, organ and piano
Starring Joe Dallesandro (one of Andy Warhol's stars) and Maria Schneider, the plot is hard to understand for me. The scenery and visual aspects are great and there is an interesting improvised soundtrack by Barre Phillips and John Surman, top experimental jazzmen.
A well directed bio with interviews of all (then) surviving members and some creative touches. Iggy is a great interviewee and often hilarious. My favourite moment concerns Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood!!! You don't have to be a devoted fan to enjoy this.
A plucky investigator goes to a remote island to find the strange inhabitants unhelpful.......yes, I know...'The Wicker Man'! But this spinoff from a tseries was made a year earlier.).Despite an early prediction of the hazards of genetic engineering and a likeable cast (cameo from George Sanders )this is not nearly as scary as the later film
This is an almost plotless exploitation movie complete with bucketloads of blood and tacky simulated sex. The best I can say is that the location shots and the sets are visually impressive. If like me you watched it because of Caroline Munro's billing, don't bother. She appears for only a few moments. Her character isn't even given a name, just ' hotel owner'. There is a brief interview with her in the Extras menu
