Thought the cast were interesting and was looking forward to the film. Unfortunately it doesn't work on any level. The screenplay rambled, characters had little or no connection, music and editing just plain dreadful....I'd really like to say there was something redeemable but there wasn't. Even wife and kids commented on how uninteresting it was. AND....no tension whatsoever. Please do yourselves a favour and do something else...like watch paint dry!
Feels like a re-hash of a number of 'much better' disaster movies. Screenplay is weak and lacked any form of tension. Effects OK which just about raise this film from a 'made for tv' movie. As always, Gerard provided some gravitas to the film but couldn't save it from a very justified low score of 3. I got to the end and it wasn't painful!
Agree with other reviewers. This film lacks any depth and the characters simply do not mesh. Whole family watched the film and no early deserters....BUT we all expected more from the cast. I don't blame the actors, the screenplay is simply weak. The fact that they hadn't eaten in days yet the dog was bounding all over the place almost had a comic edge to it! Liked the dog so 2 stars.
I'm never sure when it comes to subtitled films BUT this is exceptional. Watched with my wife and daughter (who didn't know what I'd ordered) but we all enjoyed it. The story is really interesting, the loathing and violence is kept in check but still real whilst the characters and screenplay are almost perfect. There is a scene which none of us could watch (because you know what's going to happen) but apart from that, this is a solid good watch. The relationships and emotions are what sets this film apart and I thoroughly recommend it. One could argue the end was a little predictable but I liked it (and it felt like the right thing to do).
My daughter had seen this at the cinema and recommended it. Well I can usually find something of interest in even the worst film BUT not in this one. All of the characters are awful and, most disappointingly, there is no chemistry between the main characters...none at all. My daughter also agreed that second time out, this was really bad. So 1 star as it's a film....but you might just like it but only the first time through...
Watchable (got to the end) and some enjoyable moments. However, I thought the relationship between Samuel and Ryan could have been so much more. This is a fault in the screenplay and nothing to do with the acting talents. Almost felt like they were in separate films at times. So worth a watch but disappointed that it could have been so much better. My daughter agrees so not just me!
This was a great watch and everyone at home enjoyed it including my daughter (who didn't want to watch it). The storyline is pretty thin but the joy in this film is the relationships. Both the apes and humans interact perfectly and the screenplay was very well paced. The CGI is so good in this film, I actually felt I was watching a bunch of apes. I'd go so far as to say this is the only CGI film I've ever watched were I didn't feel there was any!!! We ended up cheering at the end which says something. Now fetch me a banana....
Dreadful film. Daughter had read the book (which she enjoyed and will read again), but thought the film was poor and will not be watching ever again. Enough said from someone who liked the book.
