Asteroid City

Boring with brief touches of Humour

(Edit) 02/04/2024

The film where nothing in particular happens and, when it does, it does not relate to any previous happenings. Avoid this film like the plague.

Queen of the Desert

Gentle Story which takes time to unfold

(Edit) 31/03/2024

A beautiful film about one person's love for the Arabian desert and how she engaged with the inhabitants as well as the rolling vistas. This is not an action-packed movie but a satisfying story which is indeed real. The acting is reasonably good and the script sufficient to the story being told. A worthwhile film for the viewer of discernment.

The Imitation Game

A Well Made film with a Depressing and Inconclusive end

(Edit) 16/03/2024

A story with an extreme feminist bent where all the men are out to crush the women. However difficult it was for men and women to be ripped away from their families and friends to be part of an unfeeling and authoritarian organization, it was not just all against women. Based on personal accounts from women who actually served in the women's military services in the early 1940s, there were a wide variety of situations and women were often much appreciated for the outstanding work they carried out.

This England

Authentic but a little boring

(Edit) 03/03/2024

This film gets three stars for Kenneth Branagh's brilliant impersonation of Boris Johnson and the other actors were more than adequate within their roles. But after one has gone through several episodes of academic modelers spinning their false forecasts of "Covid" deaths, the absurd antics of the Sage committee and the ongoing battle between Dominic Cummings and the Civil Service it is hard to maintain one's interest. The subplot of the Carrie's pregnancy and subsequent baby provides some light relief, along with the Johnson's dog. A pity the opportunity was not taken to expose the falseness of the whole Covid narrative.

Daliland

Soft Porn dressed up as an "arts" film

(Edit) 24/12/2023

Despite a fine acting performance by Ben Kingsley, this film is a soft porn disaster, unless of course you are looking to goggle at Soft Porn. Maybe that's what Dali was really about -- I don't know, I never met him.

Dreamland

Good acting but a really boring script

(Edit) 31/10/2023

I gave up on this scriptwriter when the escaping couple who had absolutely no money checked into a hotel so that they could have some steamy love scenes or not. If you enjoy a story based on individuals betraying those who trusted and cared for them, then this is the film for you.

Eternal Beauty

Great actors with a dead-end script

(Edit) 27/04/2023

If you want to be face to face with mental illness for the best part of two hours, this is the film for you. Although very well acted, the story is a real downer. Very disappointing ...

Armageddon Time

Yet another Jewish victim sob story.

(Edit) 06/03/2023

I was drawn to this film by the presence of Anthony Hopkins -- one of my all time favorite actors. I was appalled to find that sections of the story could have been written by the Ukrainian propaganda center about how Jews have endured a unique level of suffering, above anybody else. Try looking at the slavery conditions endured by millions of Irish people. Very disappointing ...

The Green Knight

Pretentious Tripe

(Edit) 18/09/2022

If you are looking for the dullest and heavily satanic version of a Camelot story, this is the film for you. This utterly confused director is totally unaware of the role of Camelot to bring Light into the Dark Ages and instead focuses on the Dark ages prevailing all round. It is hard to believe that any filmmaker could achieve such a level of dullness and mediocrity while claiming his originality in spinning a new insight on a previously magical myth.

Booksmart

The Death of Humanity

(Edit) 04/07/2022

A depressing story which ignores the need for kindness and consideration for others for any society to hold together, while extolling the worst features of human behaviour as being "normal". Although there are large numbers American high school kids similar to those depicted in the film, there are many others who are engaging in the mysteries of life and working to make sense of some of it, at least. However if you enjoy bitter and crude teenage humour, this may be the film for you.

C'mon C'mon

A challenging insight into parent/child psychology

(Edit) 18/05/2022

Subtitles need to be switched on in order to receive all the dialogue. The story illustrates how children bring out in adults sometimes deeply buried emotions from their own childhoods. It also illustrates the kind of imbalance when a child has little or nothing in the way of boundaries. Not for the faint hearted ....

Death on the Nile

The Ultimate Disappointment

(Edit) 29/04/2022

How Kenneth Branagh managed to allow himself to be sucked into present day Hollywood's mediocrity and woke nonsense is baffling. The script is so bad and the characters so wooden that it might have been written by high school teenagers. I suppose we should be grateful that they did not find a way to reveal that one or more of the players were transgender.

I had previously enjoyed Branagh's version of the Murder on the Orient Express, with all its eccentric variations on the original story. But the comic book standard of the distortions applied to Christie's Death on the Nile story is little short of appalling.

The only positive in the film is some stunningly beautiful photography.

The Last Bus

An outstanding Story

(Edit) 28/01/2022

A warm hearted story about a man who has not given up on life, even though his body is getting ready to do so. The film tells the story of Tom who, despite limited mobility, is determined to fulfill a last promise made to his late wife. He repeatedly declines offers to be distracted from his mission. Yes, the film has moments of real sadness yet our hero slowly pushes on to his final destination. The climax in the last two scenes is genuinely uplifting.

Sweetheart

Little Humour Evident

(Edit) 21/01/2022

This years entry for the most boring film of the year competition. The characters are wooden, the dialogue basic and repetitive -- very hard to sustain any engagement with this offering.

Shoplifters

A Story that starts well

(Edit) 08/11/2021

A story which starts by the shplifters rescuing an abandoned young girl and taking her into their ad hoc family. But the story soon begins to deteriorate into a depressing sequence of events. Only for those with strong stomachs and an appetite for watching other people go down.
