London River

a modern tragedy

(Edit) 05/02/2013

The back story was a bit contrived but I thought the acting of the two main characters was excellent and the story told in terms of human tragedy rather than a political or social drama. The scenes of London were very vivid, very simply and well done.

Molière

Molière the biopic

(Edit) 05/02/2013

it would be better to watch the Bourgeoise Gentilhomme itself. And Molière is no Shakespeare.ça ne m'amuse pas beaucoup. Good for background, perhaps something got lot in translation

The Army of Crime

tough times

(Edit) 12/04/2011

At last a film about the French Resistance which shows the colusion the French Authorities with the German occupiers. Doesn't pull any punches on either side. Not comfortable viewing but well done. Not sure about the use of music.

The Quiet American

superb adaptation

(Edit) 30/08/2010

Probably my favourite Michael Caine movie Captured the flavour of Greene's novel really well. The politics is subtle, the pace perfect.

Frida

A feast for the eyes

(Edit) 29/08/2010

An interesting film. There has been some criticism of the slightly Monty Pythonish animated sequences in this film but I liked them, loved the incorporation of Kahlo's art and the close resemblance of the actors to the originals. A good biopic and lovely to look at.

King of the Hill

Run or die

(Edit) 29/08/2010

Unfussy and gripping.A film reminiscent of Spielberg's Duel, except the identities of the assassins are revealed about two thirds of the way through, some loss of tension at that point.
