Wow! what a great film - an early talky... I think the same year as 'All Quiet on the Western Front'- both seen through German Eyes, but 'Westfront 1918' is less sentimental, though both are great. one of the best 1war movies..

The camera work, effects and set design, costume acting are superb-

 we need to see more of these early films-many of them  stand up and are  better than many films today..

So stylish - wow great photography - excellent acting- pulls you into the story and into the film.. Love it..

the pace is enthralling and the main character focuses the story around Her.. watch this film - it might make you want to see more early films- maybe event some  silent movies..

A great french film and - underrated- at least fairly unknown - compared to some French films. 

A great Film.. 

A great series of films- a little slow for todays audiences.

But the set designs are mind-blowing- wow a blockbuster of its day!!

If you are interested in mythology and like Tolkien and especially Wagner's Ring Cycle - you may find this movie, series of movies, fascinating and clarify what can be a confusing story...

Not for everyones taste- but it definitely has merit.. 

Yeh a fast pace - second half of movie.

Very watchable- great build up and dynamic - extensive battle and very well done- very good choreographed.

good pre-battle story.

kinda follows Kurosawa's  '7 samurai' - not as brilliant as this- but is still highly effective..def with a watch!!

yeh interesting film- gets you thinking...

Gives you an insight into parts of American psychology- you get to feel that Pioneering mythology and history. 

That feeling of Americans can't or shouldn't  rely on the state.. they should be self sufficient and be able to make their own way..

Yeh i don't agree with a rubbish US health service and the right to be all gun this and gun that.. but the film def gives you an understanding of this...

I feel I can empathies with the film cast- many of which are not actors but are actually just being what they portray, drifters and travellers.

I don't agree with the politics of the Republican view- but hay if i was with these people, in their shoes - I probably would!!

Watch it and see.   

yeh learnt about  the Film Maker  Jaques Becker- that alone made watching this rewarding..

i didn't know about this director- everyone else I had heard of ..but this was new.. so a documentary that i learn from ..

it made me order a few of his films -- and great they are too.. check out

Casque D 'or- a masterpiece.

worth a watch   

Great story- so imaginative-wow . wow 

- so powerful - shows you animation can be so much more than just entertainment- along with 'Plague Dogs' , 'Watership Down" , 'Animal farm' and even Bakshi

a Wow film- is as relevant now as back in early 70's

there needs more of this kind of thing and  take on the world 

absolutely superb- its style is Yellow submarine but with more substance..

All done in a small town set up

Inspiring and a little bit depressing as well..

Fascinating

Like Bergman it draws you in and like Godard- as well- it relies on good acting and characters above and beyond big expense and great sets and effects.. 

sparse but interesting.

Like Bergman. Godard. Bela Tarr - you look at the characters and the background- minimalism can be so fascinating.

It took a bit of time to make this film  and I believe the story developed into something more- due to its production length and the entrance of a new story in the form of a family from outside..

Yeh worth watching..

But somehow it holds your attention and is an enjoyable film ..

I kinda like Cronenberg's films - they work - even when the story line is silly..
