A surprisingly effective treatment of a potentially tricky subject. Both leads were very well suited to the roles and performed very well indeed.
Superbly acted and engaging story. It seems a very convincing account of the separation with all the complexities of 'normal' life to be negotiated. The impact on the couple's daughter is at the heart of the film.
Humorous presentation gives the true story of Flitcroft an enjoyable feel to the film which tells the tale in an effective way.
The relationship between the two women is very affecting and their story engaging. The important story of the exhumation of the bodies of Spanish civil war victims feels as if it might have been better served as a separate film.
The film is carefully organised with very powerful performances by an excellent cast. Engaging story with unexpected twists. Symbolic moments like a cliffs fall and an immersion on a beach added to the film. An interesting interview with the director and lead actors included on the disc is worth a look.
An engaging and unusual story beautifully realised. It is worth listening to the interview with the director on the DVD which provides interesting commentary on the similarities with events in Iceland.
The film is quite delightful in the way it seems to travel almost randomly around the French countryside. The relationship between Agnes Varda and the photographer JR is enjoyable as they bicker and joke. The huge photographs they create and paste on buildings are powerful in the way they celebrate ordinary people.
As expected, any film with Alison Steadman as the lead is worth seeing. Enjoyable and convincing story.
Beautifully filmed and acted with a superb soundtrack giving you a real sense of life in Mexico City. The extras on the disc include a fascinating film about the making of Roma which is a real bonus.
The story is involving and the setting convincingly real. The acting is very engaging with moving performances by the children. A film that makes a real impact making you think about family relationships.
This is a delightful film featuring Harry Dean Stanton on fine form as a retired resident of a sleepy Arizona town. His philosophical musings on the world are one of the highlights of the film.
Powerfully executed and very sad as the desperate waste of extraordinary talent unfolds. The impact of the downsides of fame are clearly depicted.
