Synopsis:
A night for history and heroes as Kevin Sinfield guided Leeds to their first ever Grand Final triumph, the Rhinos doing it the hard way having to overcome local rivals, holders and favourites Bradford Bulls. It proved to be an epic, absorbing encounter. Lesley Vainikolo s early try for the Bulls was answered by Matt Diskin for the Rhinos, but Sinfield s unerring accuracy with the boot put Leeds 10-4 ahead at the break. Shontayne Hape plunged over at the start of the second half to reduce the deficit, but the Bulls could not cross the line again. Both teams defended heroically in a tense tug of war that kept the capacity crowd enthralled until Danny McGuire took Leeds clear. The Rhinos would celebrate Grand Final success at Old Trafford many more times in the years ahead, but this was the most emotional victory of them all. The dramatic game and celebrations in full, this is a complete record of the battle for rugby league s biggest prize.
