The Six Day War
In 1967, Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser rallied the Arab world behind a single goal, the destruction of Israel. Arab forces gathered on three sides of the tiny country, but Israeli leader Moshe Dayan attacked first. Dayan's surprise raid decimated Egypt's air force and his daring tank raids drove a panicked Egypt back to the Suez. The six days of fierce fighting pushed the remainder of the Arab forces back across Israel's borders, forever changing the power structure of the Middle East.
The Falklands WarFor over 150 years, the remote Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic have been the subject of dispute between Argentina and Britain. Since 1833, Britain has occupied and administered the islands, but in April 1982, on the orders of the military junta ruling the country, Argentinean forces invaded the Falklands and took possession of them. Argentina's leaders miscalculated Margaret Thatcher's resolve, and two months later surrendered to a British force sent to retake the islands. It caused the downfall of General Leopoldo Galtieri and eventually led to the restoration of democracy in Argentina. - Actors:
