Great Film Great Soundtrack
- 20th Century Women review by Gl
Enjoyed this film a lot, not what I was expecting in a good way.
Great Cast and unusual story.
Best of all was the sound track ! Lots of punk and various others.

Brilliant and hypnotic
- 20th Century Women review by EN
Brilliant, hypnotic movie, really summons the feel of the period, all the performances were nuanced and vivid, the plot original and interesting, the dance scenes were electrifying, and the film boasts a fab soundtrack; I entirely agree with the other reviewer here, this is definitely one to watch.

Boring and slow
- 20th Century Women review by NR
Heard good reviews for this film, but I found it boring and depressing. The end was really sad and left me feeling like I needed a good comedy to counter-balance the effects of this film.

Usual teen angst coming-of-age drama, but a young cast keeps it fresh.
- 20th Century Women review by DB
I WANTED to see 20th Century Women because I'd seen good reviews about it. Also, I like Elle Fanning very much. Annette Benning is good as the mother in the central role, but she has done this sort of role before in both AMERICAN BEAUTY and THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT. ELLE FANNING is the best thing about the movie, her performance is just so natural and fresh. Good period detail too for 1979 and both BILLY CRUDUP and GRETA GERWIG help bulk up the cast and move the story along. A good rental.

Disappointing
- 20th Century Women review by BE
I found Annette Benning sloping about for almost two hours spouting self indulgent rhetoric quite tedious. Plus most of the other characters' muddled heads, dull and uninspiring.

Wonderful
- 20th Century Women review by CP Customer
Had been meaning to see this for ages, particularly as I love Annette Bening. She was great, as were the rest of a strong ensemble cast. None of the characters were perfect, all were believable. The film was inspired by Mike Mills' mother and he brought that era, and those people, to life beautifully.

Meandering Tale, but Delightful
- 20th Century Women review by AndyM
This was one of those delightful tales which has no big "message" or action, and just quietly meanders through episodes in people's lives. The characters are only semi-sane, but endearing, and engaging in all their interactions with each other, and are mainly well-meaning but doomed to failure, mainly, like most people in life. I enjoyed it - my kind of film.

Let down by the story line
- 20th Century Women review by RL
It's well acted, directed, looks and feels good and the music is decent. A well put together film let down by a weird story line and over the top feminism. The mother is an annoying ageing hippy which doesn't help.

Depressing narration, poor music score/tracks, bleak story
- 20th Century Women review by PC
Solid acting, well designed period sets and clothes and off beat characters can't overcome a film that has any joy, life and interest sucked out of it by various choices in the soundtrack, storyline, editing/narrative flow.
