Series 2 was recorded on early 18th-century organs in North Germany and Holland, some of which were known to Bach. At Luneburg, where Bach was educated, the Passacaglia in C Minor and the Prelude and fugue in E flat are played. The organ at the Jacobikirche, Hamburg, where Bach auditioned in 1720, is featured for the fourth of the six Sonatas, known as trio-sonatas. Here too, a performance of the "Concertato" Prelude and fugue in D Major can be seen. On the quaintly-beautiful Schnitger instrument at Neuenfelde, the Christmas variations on Vom Himmel hoch are presented, and on the imposing organ at Haarlem, Holland, the "Great" Fantasia and fugue in G Minor completes series 2.
