The world has come to remember September 11th as one of the defining moments of the 21st century. The date when everything changed and the U.S. became victim to an act of terrorism beginning with the bombings at the World Trade Center. When the twin towers were attacked, firefighters were among the first to hit the scene, fighting against raging fires, collapsing buildings, blinding dust and cries for help and risking their own lives to save those caught in the attacks. This programme commemorates those who lost their lives in the attack, those whose lives would change thereafter and especially those who put their own lives in danger in order to save others. Beginning with the horrific images of the 9/11 attacks, this video goes on to depict the heroic experiences of Ground Zero's volunteers - firefighters, tradesmen, church and relief organisations and just ordinary people who felt compelled to help. Retold and relived through reconstructions of the events and actual footage from Ground Zero, including interviews with those involved with the rescue operations. It was not just a day of horror and fear, but of overcoming that fear to save lives and 'Answer the Call'.
