Synopsis:
Free-spirited Bertha (Barbara Hershey) is a small-time crook with a "love 'em and leave 'em" philosophy...until she falls hard for union man - and Robin-Hood-of-the-rails - Big Bill Shelly (David Carradine). Stealing from the rich and giving to the workers, Bertha and Bill soon become the most notorious train robbers in the South. But as their crimes grow more brazen, the law grows more ruthless, and the duo discovers - too late - that their lifetime of larceny may have bought them a one-way ticket...to a deadly destination!

Rewatch - Boxcar Bertha review by SS

I first saw Boxcar Bertha in the Cinema in 1972/73

Rewatching some 50 years later the Film struggled to hold my attention

The central performance by Barbara Hershey is good and she is believable in the role but overall a Film such as this ( Depression era, bank robbing ) was far better done in the seminal Bonnie and Clyde.

Surprisingly good - Boxcar Bertha review by LE

This has a mixed reputation but it is actually very high quality. Scorsese's trademark direction is present throughout and he's at his best in certain sequences, including the horrific last scene. This is definitely worth your time if you're a Scorsese fan. There are themes and even individual shots that he would go on to develop in his later films. Barbara Hershey is terrific too.
