Considering 'Fright Night' is a film now over 20 years old it's still a great vampire flick, mainly because it doesn't take itself too seriously and also due to a great cast which are both engaging and talented. The real star though is Roddy MacDowall, he brings just the right amount of hamminess, nobility and cowardice to 'TV vampire hunter Peter Vincent'. The film is filled with subtle references to past classic vampire movies, and does a great job of integrating vampire folklore into a world where everyone thinks vampires only exist in the movies. Overall, 'Fright Night' is a great film with excellent acting, a witty and intelligent script, a classic 80's soundtrack and visual effects that still hold up well by today's standards, and to top it off a finale that'll knocks your socks off! If you're a horror fan this is a must see movie!
I'd never seen this film at the time and fancied some retro horror/supernatural. The acting was pretty poor, too hammy and shouty for me. The plot was as you'd expect from such a film. The main female character who is meant to be at High School looked almost 30. I watched it to the end but I kept thinking how much better the Buffy The Vampire tv series was (not the fim). For me, BTVS at it's best is the pinnacle of this genre.
