1983 BAFTA Best Supporting Actress
1983 Oscar Best Cinematography
Beautiful photography provides a majestic backdrop to the unfolding saga of Ghandi developing as a man and finding a role in Indian life. Fabulous acting but it is a long film and you need to concentrate. Not a film for the faint hearted but worth dedicating time to.
This epic and beautifully acted film, gives an unbiased and easy to understand "potted history" of the run up to Indian Independence and the problems of "Partition". I enjoyed it as much this time as I did when it first was released. Ben Kingsley is outstanding in his role as Gandh.
I would recommend it to anyone interested in modern history.
