- Epic drama of Pompeii at the city's height of glory, up to the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, this film is one of titanic proportions, recounting on the grandest scale, its untimely destruction which killed 20,000 people in a matter of hours. Pompeii was a world where men and women had slaves and where gladiators fought to the death to provide entertainment to the bloodthirsty crowds. Helpless against a succession of apocalyptic events (a great earthquake, tidal waves, thunder and lightning), the inferno continued for three days and then all was silent. Gladiator for daytime TV - Gladiator of Pompeii review by RL
It really isn't the epic it's described as. Zero CGI effects limit the graphic portrayal to theatrical costumes & props. The actors appear to be all over-actors from pampered backgrounds; no hint of the hard, earthy realism of a Russell Crowe. Good acting is when an actor prepares by living the role on & off set, then delivers with passion & conviction. These guys act like they were staying in a 5 star hotel during filming. Overall it would be lucky to score as an epic on daytime TV.
