Heli lives a simple existence in a small house with his father, wife, baby son and 12 year old sister, Estela. When Estela's boyfriend, a young cadet, seeks to change their lives by stealing confiscated cocaine, Heli and his family are caught up in the murderous world of Mexico's drug cartels and the corrupt police they control. Heli - Heli review by RL
This is a very well made film and some of the shots will stay with you forever. It does however leave you with a very empty feeling as it offers no hope and the story is so sad and brutal. Mexicans will hate the film as it gives such a depressing view of one part of their beautiful country. I guess films have to reflect reality but you are left wondering what the film achieves. Nevertheless a very well made film.
