Interesting film abut the perils of love and the heartaches that can be associated with it. The interesting part of this film is how it effects other people in close contact with Nathan and Louis the lovers, plus the don't rock the boat attitude of people in authority who all want to run for cover when life catches up with them. A little slow to start but the film in my mind did bite the bullet by the end.
I thought the homophobia from both fellow pupils , teachers and parents was a little overdone. Surely-ALL those people wouldn't have been so blatantly homophobic in real life? Sometimes it was hard to believe the film dates from 2016. I think we have all come a little further along the path of acceptance than this. But still- if the film was intended to make a point about homophobia- then it surely did! I reckon this movie should be compulsory viewing in secondary schools teaching ' sex and relationship' education. It would certainly educate those living in ignorance of what is after all- a fact of life. The performances of the two leading actors were excellent - and being French- I loved the scenery and the depiction of the local way of life. Highly recommended.
I really can’t applaud the director enough in his handling and delivery of a moment that many young gay men face in their lives. It certainly jogged more than a few memories for me as a gay man and had me nodding, crying and smiling throughout.
The director nailed every aspect perfectly and it was delivered with great beauty and belief by the two young actors. It also showed both sides of the coin in a fathers reaction, in how the process of acceptance and love for their sons can take different paths. I thought Nathan’s Dad in particular put in a great acting performance.
It showed the pain and doubt that can torture a young gay man at an already tough time in life. Along with the very real sadness, bullying and lack of education or compassion, that thankfully exists less and less in today’s society but was brought into the spotlight and showed perfectly how much it not only effects those involved but those around them.
Bravo!
