'Hide Your Smiling Faces' vividly depicts the young lives of two brothers as they abruptly come of age through the experience of a friend's mysterious death. The event ripples under the surface of their town, unsettling the brothers and their friends in a way that they can't fully understand. Once familiar interactions begin to take on a macabre tone in light of the tragic accident, leading Eric and Tommy to retreat into their wild surroundings. As the two brothers vocally face the questions they have about mortality, they simultaneously hold their own silent debates within their minds that build into seemingly insurmountable moral peaks. Atmospheric but a bit too minimalist - Hide Your Smiling Faces review by TD
The photography was superb in this film. The teenage characters highly believable in their very rural setting. I just found that there was too little dialogue - perhaps reflecting the reality of what boys of this age say (or don't say) to one another, but it was all a bit too subtle for me. My problem, perhaps?

Exasperated - Hide Your Smiling Faces review by DJ
Yet another set of film-makers who do not have the common courtesy or the respect for their audience to put subtitles on their DVD; along with CP not flagging deficient films like this so that two wasted postal deliveries can be avoided. After so many years of disappointment, it all gets a bit wearing. Only awarded one star because I can't figure out a way to give it less
